Server side web browsing and multiple lens system, method and apparatus
Abstract
A user may access a host server and receive display information within a single browser window. The display information includes at least one lens, wherein each lens controls server side web browsing and allows the user to view a separate web page from the Internet. The host server provides personalized web browsing capability specific to a particular user independent of the browser, device or location of the user. After the user submits a request to view a particular web page, the web page information is retrieved by the host server and transmitted to the user for display within a selected lens. Each lens controls server-side web browsing through independent navigational controls, such as a horizontal and vertical scroll bar, a resize button and the like. One lens may also control the web content displayed in another lens. The host server may reformat entire web pages so that they can be displayed within a lens without the need for scrolling. Additionally, each lens may have multiple cookies associated therewith. Users may further submit bookmarks which are applicable to one or more of the lenses. Bookmarks may be recognized through initiating a single command.
Claims
exact text as granted — not AI-modified1 . A computer-readable memory device having instructions stored thereon that, in response to execution by a computing device, cause the computing device to perform operations comprising:
receiving, at a host server, a Uniform Resource Locator (URL) from a remote device; retrieving a web page from at least one third party server based on the received URL, the web page configured for display within a browser window of the remote device, wherein the web page comprises display data and specifies a first font size; according to a setting corresponding to the remote device, reformatting the web page based on a second font size; transmitting, by the host server, the reformatted web page to the remote device.
2 . The computer-readable memory device of claim 1 , wherein only a portion of the display data is viewable within a display area of the browser window using the first font size.
3 . The computer-readable memory device of claim 2 , wherein all of the formatted display data is viewable within the display area of the browser window without using a horizontal scroll bar or a vertical scroll bar.
4 . The computer readable memory device of claim 1 , wherein the operations further comprise:
compressing pixel data of the web page according to a percentage that is selected based on the setting; and including the compressed pixel data in the reformatted web page transmission to the remote device.
5 . The computer readable memory device of claim 4 , wherein the compression percentage is applied to the first font size to obtain the second font size.
6 . The computer readable memory device of claim 1 , wherein the web page includes HyperText Markup Language (HTML) content.
7 . The computer readable memory device of claim 6 , wherein the operations further comprise transforming an attribute of the web page to an HTML tag, wherein the HTML tag includes at least one of an HTML table tag, an HTML td tag, an HTML img tag, or an HTML font tag.
8 . The computer readable memory device of claim 6 , wherein the operations further comprise reducing the width, height, and size attributes of an HTML tag of the web page and including the HTML tag having the reduced attributes in the reformatted web page.
9 . The computer readable memory device of claim 1 , wherein the operations further comprise:
receiving content from the third party server in a first form; and translating the content into a second different form and including the translated content in the reformatted web page transmission to the remote device.
10 . The computer readable memory device of claim 9 , wherein the first form is at least one of HTML, CSS, XML, XSL, XHTML, or WML, and wherein the second form is at least one of HTML or WML.
11 . The computer readable memory device of claim 1 , wherein the operations further comprise:
storing a cookie received from the remote device in a memory of the host server; and transmitting the cookie to the third party server to identify a user of the remote device.
12 . A method, comprising:
receiving, at a host server, a URL from a remote device; retrieving, over a network, a web page based on the received URL, the web page configured for display within a browser window of the remote device, wherein the web page comprises display data and specifies a first font size; according to a setting corresponding to the remote device, reformatting the web page based on a second font size; transmitting, by the host server, the reformatted web page to the remote device.
13 . The method of claim 12 , wherein the display data does not fit within the display area of the browser, either only a portion of the display data being viewable within the display area of the browser window using the first font size or only a portion of the display area of the browser window consumed by the display data using the first font size.
14 . The method of claim 12 , wherein the reformatted web page comprises reformatted display data and specifies the second font size, the reformatted display data using the second font size, all of the reformatted display data being viewable within the display area of the browser window without using a horizontal scroll bar or a vertical scroll bar.
15 . The method of claim 12 , further comprising:
receiving content from a third party server in a first form; and translating the content into a second different form and including the translated content in the reformatted web page transmission to the remote device.
16 . The method of claim 15 , wherein the first form is at least one of HTML, CSS, XML, XSL, XHTML, or WML, and wherein the second form is at least one of HTML or WML.
17 . The method of claim 12 , further comprising:
storing a cookie received from the remote device in a memory of the host server; and transmitting the cookie to a third party server to identify a user of the remote device.
18 . An apparatus, comprising:
means for retrieving, over a network, a web page based on a URL received from a remote device, wherein the web page comprises display data and specifies a first font size; means for reformatting the web page based on a second font size according to a setting corresponding to the remote device; and means for transmitting the reformatted web page to the remote device.
19 . The apparatus of claim 18 , wherein the display data does not fit within the display area of a browser window, either only a portion of the display data being viewable within the display area of the browser window using the first font size or only a portion of the display area of the browser window consumed by the display data using the first font size.
20 . The apparatus of claim 19 , wherein the reformatted web page comprises reformatted display data and specifies the second font size, the reformatted display data using the second font size, all of the formatted display data being viewable within the display area of the browser window without using a horizontal scroll bar or a vertical scroll bar.Join the waitlist — get patent alerts
