Abstract

In a storage management system in which a storage apparatus is connected via a network to a volume allocation management server having a performance requirement analysis unit, a volume allocation unit, and a volume performance determining unit, the performance requirements of a business application using volume-allocating data and the performance characteristics of a volume serving as a data storage destination are determined, and on the basis of the resulting information, a volume which satisfies the performance requirements is selected as the data storage destination.

Claims

exact text as granted — not AI-modified
1 . A management server coupled to a storage apparatus providing a plurality of storage areas and at least one computer, comprising:
a memory resource storing computer information about a plurality of programs executed by the at least one computer; and a CPU configured to: (A) receive an input identifying a first program among the plurality of programs; (B) determine whether the first program is allocated to a part of the plurality of storage areas or not; and (C) search a first storage area to be allocated to the first program among a plurality of storage area, based on:
(C-1) a performance value of an access to the part of the plurality of storage areas by the first program, which is stored in the computer information, if the result of determination (B) is allocated; and
(C-2) a classification of the first program stored in the computer information, if the result of determination (B) is not allocated.

         2 . A management server according to claim 1 ,
wherein the CPU calculates a first evaluation value of the first program for the (C) searching based on (C-1) and (C-2), and wherein the CPU is configured to: (D) receive an input identifying a second program among the plurality of programs executed by the at least one computer; (E) receive an input identifying the first program related to the second program; (F) calculate a second evaluation value based on the first value; and (G) search a second storage area to be allocated to the second program among a plurality of storage areas, based on the second evaluation value.

         3 . A management server according to claim 2 ,
wherein the second program is executed by another computer to a computer executing the first program, and wherein the second program has a same program classification as the first program.

         4 . A management server according to claim 1 ,
wherein if the result of determination (B) is allocated but an operation time of the first program does not exceed a certain time, the (C) searching is based on the classification more than the performance value.

         5 . A management server according to claim 1 ,
wherein the performance value is about an access number in a period.

6 . A computer readable media storing a computer program for a management server managing a storage apparatus providing the plurality of storage areas and at least one computer, the computer program comprising:
a code causing the management server to store computer information about a plurality of programs executed by the at least one computer; a code causing the management server to receive an input identifying a first program among the plurality of programs executed by the at least one computer; a code causing the management server to determine whether the first program is allocated to a part of the plurality of storage areas or not; and a code causing the management server to search a first storage area to be allocated to the first program among a plurality of storage areas, based on:
(C-1) a performance value of an access to the part of the plurality of storage areas by the first program, which is stored in the computer information, if the result of determination (B) is allocated; and
(C-2) a classification of the first program stored in the computer information, if the result of determination (B) is not allocated.

7 . A computer readable media according to claim 6 , the computer program further comprising:
a code causing the management server to calculate a first evaluation value of the first program for the searching based on (C-1) and (C-2); a code causing the management server to receive an input identifying a second program among the plurality of programs executed by the at least one computer; a code causing the management server to receive an input identifying the first program related to the second program; a code causing the management server to calculate a second evaluation value based on the first value; and a code causing the management server to search a second storage area to be allocated to the second program among a plurality of storage areas, based on the second evaluation value.

         8 . A computer readable media according to claim 7 ,
wherein the second program is executed by another computer to a computer executing the first program, and wherein the second program has a same program classification as the first program.

         9 . A computer readable media according to claim 6 ,
wherein if the result of determination is allocated but an operation time of the first program does not exceed a certain time, the searching is based the classification more than the performance value.

         10 . A computer readable media according to claim 6 ,
wherein the performance value is about an access number in a period.

11 . A management computer managing a storage apparatus and at least one computer, comprising:
an input device receiving an input identifying a first program executed by the at least one computer; and a display device displaying an identifier of a first storage area among a plurality of storage areas provided by the storage apparatus, for allocating to the first program, wherein the first storage area is searched based on:
(C-1) a performance value of an access to a part of the plurality of storage areas by the first program, if the first program is allocated to the part of the plurality of storage areas; and
(C-2) a classification of the first program, if the first program is not allocated to the part of the storage area.

         12 . A management computer according to claim 11 ,
wherein the input device receives an input identifying a second program executed by the at least one computer, and an input the first program related to the second program, wherein the display device displaying an identifier of a second storage area among the plurality of storage areas for allocating to the second program, wherein the second storage area is searched based on an evaluation value calculated for the searching of the first storage area.

         13 . A management computer according to claim 12 ,
wherein the second program is executed by another computer to a computer executing the first program, and wherein the second program has a same program classification as the first program.

         14 . A management computer according to claim 11 ,
wherein, if the first program is allocated to the part of the plurality of storage areas, but an operation time of the first program does not exceed a certain time, the first storage area is searched based on the classification more than the performance value.
