Hair styling tool with detachable handle
Abstract
A hair styling tool kit has cylindrical hair roller(s) having bristles positioned on exterior thereof, an open proximate end, a closed distant end and an inner cavity. A magnet is fitted in the distant end of the hair roller, and a mating magnet is fitted in a roller engaging portion of the handle. The handle is configured to detachably engage the proximate end of the hair roller(s), one at a time, and facilitate rolling of hair on the hair roller(s). The magnets retain the hair roller engaged with the handle during the hair rolling process while rotation of the hair roller in relation to the handle is prevented.

a substantially hollow hair roller having an inner cavity, an open proximate end, and a closed distant end; a removable handle configured for detachable engagement with the hair roller, said handle comprising a roller engaging portion and a gripping portion unitary connected to the roller engaging portion; a handle engagement member defined by the inner cavity of the hair roller; and wherein a roller magnet member is fitted in the distant end of the hair roller and a handle magnet member is fitted in the roller engaging portion, said roller magnet member and the handle magnet member being configured to detachably matingly engage when the roller engaging portion is positioned in the cavity of the hair roller.

The assembly of claim 1 , wherein the roller engaging portion comprises a contact plate secured to a free end of the roller engaging portion, and wherein a flexible resilient deformable member is fitted in the contact plate, said member resisting rotation of the hair roller in relation to the roller engaging portion.
3 . The assembly of claim 1 , wherein said handle engagement member comprises a generally cylindrical body and said cavity has a generally cylindrical configuration configured to fittingly engage the roller engaging portion of the handle.
4 . The assembly of claim 3 , wherein the inner cavity is defined by a central opening formed in the hair roller, and wherein a pair of opposing slots extends from the central opening along a length of the inner cavity.
5 . The assembly of claim 4 , further comprising a means for preventing rotation of the hair roller relative to the roller engaging portion when the hair roller is engaged with the roller engaging portion.
6 . The assembly of claim 5 , wherein said means for preventing rotation of the hair roller comprises a pair of opposed keys secured on exterior of the cylindrical body, each of said keys being configured to frictionally engage a corresponding slot formed in the cavity of the hair roller.

The assembly of claim 1 , wherein said handle engagement member comprises a generally cylindrical body having a generally rectangular cavity formed therein, and wherein said roller engaging portion has a generally rectangular configuration sized and shaped to frictionally engage within the cavity formed in the hair roller.
8 . The assembly of claim 3 , further comprising a means for preventing rotation of the hair roller in relation to the roller engaging portion, said rotation preventing means comprising a pair of spring-loaded depressible arms secured on the handle adjacent the roller engaging portion.
9 . The assembly of claim 8 , wherein each of said arms carries a hook-shaped locking member.

The assembly of claim 9 , wherein the rotation preventing means further comprises an inwardly extending flange secured in the cavity and extending transversely to a longitudinal axis of the cavity, said arms being configured to move between an extended position when the locking members engage the flange and a depressed position when the locking members are forced away from the flange.
11 . The assembly of claim 1 , wherein said cavity has a generally frustoconical configuration having a widest part of the cavity being located adjacent the proximate end of the hair roller.
12 . The assembly of claim 11 , wherein a wall defining the inner cavity is provided with alternating ridges and grooves.
13 . The assembly of claim 12 , wherein said roller engaging portion has a generally frustoconical configuration, and wherein alternating ridges and grooves are formed on an exterior surface of the roller engaging portion.
14 . The assembly of claim 13 , wherein alternating bridges and grooves of the roller engaging portion are sized and shaped to matingly engage with the grooves and ridges of the cavity formed in the hair roller.
15 . A hair styling tool assembly comprising:
a substantially hollow hair roller with exterior bristles, an inner cavity, an open proximate end, and a closed distant end; a removable handle configured for detachable engagement with the hair roller, said handle comprising a roller engaging portion and a gripping portion unitary connected to the roller engaging portion, said roller engaging portion having a contact end; a means for preventing rotation of the hair roller in relation to the roller engaging portion; and wherein a roller magnet member is fitted in the distant end of the hair roller and a handle magnet member is fitted in the contact end of the roller engaging portion, said roller magnet member and the handle magnet member being configured to detachably matingly engage when the roller engaging portion is positioned in the cavity of the hair roller.
16 . The assembly of claim 15 , wherein said means for preventing rotation comprises a flexible resilient deformable ring fitted in the contact end of the roller engaging portion.

The assembly of claim 15 , wherein said means for preventing rotation comprises a pair of keys carried by an exterior surface of the roller engaging portion and a pair of opposing slots formed in the inner cavity, said slots being configured to matingly engage the keys of the roller engaging portion when the hair roller is engaged with the roller engaging portion.
18 . The assembly of claim 15 , wherein the means for preventing rotation comprises a pair of spring-loaded depressible arms secured on the handle adjacent the roller engaging portion, each of said arms carrying a hook-shaped locking member, and wherein each of said locking members is configured to detachably engage an inwardly extending flange secured in the cavity and extending transversely to a longitudinal axis of the cavity, said arms being configured to move between an extended position when the locking members engage the flange and a depressed position when the locking members are forced away from the flange.
19 . The assembly of claim 15 , wherein the means for preventing rotation comprises alternating grooves and ridges formed on a wall defining the inner cavity, and wherein matching ridges and grooves are formed on an exterior surface of the roller engaging portion, said alternating bridges and grooves of the roller engaging portion are sized and shaped to matingly engage with the grooves and ridges formed in the cavity of the hair roller.
20 . The assembly of claim 19 , wherein said cavity has a generally frustoconical configuration, and said roller engaging portion has a matching generally frustoconical configuration.
21 . The assembly of claim 15 , wherein said handle engagement member comprises a generally cylindrical body having a generally rectangular cavity formed therein, and wherein said roller engaging portion has a generally rectangular configuration sized and shaped to frictionally engage within the cavity formed in the hair roller and prevent rotation of the hair roller in relation to the roller engaging portion.
22 . A method of styling hair, comprising the steps:
(a) providing a substantially hollow hair roller with bristles, an inner cavity, an open proximate end, and a closed distant end; (b) providing a handle configured for detachable engagement with the hair roller, said handle comprising a roller engaging portion and a gripping portion unitary connected to the roller engaging portion, said roller engaging portion having a contact end; (c) providing a roller magnet member in the distant end of the hair roller and a handle magnet member in the contact end of the roller engaging portion; (d) engaging the roller engaging portion within the cavity of the hair roller such that the roller magnet member and the handle magnet member matingly engage and secure the hair roller with the roller engaging portion; (e) rolling a strand of hair onto the hair roller while preventing rotation of the hair roller in relation to the roller engaging portion; (f) securing the hair on the hair roller; (g) disengaging the handle from the hair roller by pulling the handle and the hair roller apart with a strength sufficient to overcome magnetic attraction between the roller magnet and the handle magnet; (h) repeating steps (d) through (g) with a desired number of hair rollers; (i) applying heat to the hair roller(s) thereby causing the hair rollers to transmit heat to rolled hair and dry the rolled hair; (i) removing hair roller(s) and styling the hair in a desired fashion.
23 . The method of claim 22 , wherein said hair roller(s) is formed from a heat absorbing material.
24 . The method of claim 22 , wherein said step of rolling a strand of hair onto the hair roller while preventing rotation of the hair roller in relation to the roller engaging portion comprises a step of providing a means for preventing rotation between the hair roller and the roller engaging portion.
25 . The method of claim 24 , wherein the means for preventing rotation comprises a flexible resilient deformable ring fitted in the contact end of the roller engaging portion.
26 . The method of claim 24 , wherein said means for preventing rotation comprises a pair of keys carried by an exterior surface of the roller engaging portion and a pair of opposing slots formed in the inner cavity, said slots being configured to matingly engage the keys of the roller engaging portion when the hair roller is engaged with the roller engaging portion.
27 . The method of claim 24 , wherein the means for preventing rotation comprises a pair of spring-loaded depressible arms secured on the handle adjacent the roller engaging portion, each of said arms carrying a hook-shaped locking member, and wherein each of said locking members is configured to detachably engage an inwardly extending flange secured in the cavity and extending transversely to a longitudinal axis of the cavity, said arms being configured to move between an extended position when the locking members engage the flange and a depressed position when the locking members are forced away from the flange.
28 . The method of claim 24 , wherein the means for preventing rotation comprises alternating grooves and ridges formed on a wall defining the inner cavity, and wherein matching ridges and grooves are formed on an exterior surface of the roller engaging portion, said alternating bridges and grooves of the roller engaging portion are sized and shaped to matingly engage with the grooves and ridges formed in the cavity of the hair roller.
29 . The method of claim 26 , wherein said cavity has a generally frustoconical configuration, and said roller engaging portion has a matching generally frustoconical configuration.
30 . The method of claim 22 , wherein said handle engagement member comprises a generally cylindrical body having a generally rectangular cavity formed therein, and wherein said roller engaging portion has a generally rectangular configuration sized and shaped to frictionally engage within the cavity formed in the hair roller and prevent rotation of the hair roller in relation to the roller engaging portion.Join the waitlist — get patent alerts
