Abstract
This invention is directed to a rifle barrel and a method for modifying a pre-existing rifle barrel comprising dissembling said pre-existing rifle so that said barrel is removed from said pre-existing rifle placing said barrel in a sleeve having an inner diameter larger then said diameter of said barrel for receiving said barrel thereby defining a void arranged between said barrel and said sleeve when said barrel is placed in said sleeve reducing the outer diameter of said barrel near the breach end of said barrel so that said sleeve will cover said barrel up to the action of said rifle when said barrel is placed in said sleeve filling said void defined by said barrel and said sleeve with filler material attaching a weld-on thread assemble to said sleeve at the muzzle end of said barrel and assembling said pre-existing rifle with said barrel placed in said sleeve.

dissembling said pre-existing rifle so that said barrel is removed from said pre-existing rifle; placing said barrel in a sleeve having an inner diameter larger then said diameter of said barrel for receiving said barrel thereby defining a void arranged between said barrel and said sleeve when said barrel is placed in said sleeve; reducing the outer diameter of said barrel near the breach end of said barrel so that said sleeve will cover said barrel up to the action of said rifle when said barrel is placed in said sleeve; filling said void defined by said barrel and said sleeve with filler material; attaching a weld-on thread assemble to said sleeve at the muzzle end of said barrel; and, assembling said pre-existing rifle with said barrel placed in said sleeve.
2 . The method of claim 1 including cutting at least one circumferential groove in said barrel located generally at the muzzle end of said barrel for receiving filler material when said barrel is placed in said sleeve.
3 . The method of claim 1 including:
providing an alignment tool;
inserting said alignment tool in said muzzle of said barrel after said barrel in placed in said sleeve; and,
aligning said barrel central to said sleeve using said alignment tool.
4 . The method of claim 3 wherein aligning said barrel central to said sleeve using said alignment tool is preformed after filling said void defined by said barrel and said sleeve.
5 . The method of claim 3 including:
providing a weld-on thread;
aligning said weld-on thread with said sleeve using said alignment tool; and,
attaching said weld-on thread to said sleeve.
6 . The method of claim 5 including attaching a threaded muzzle brake to said weld-on thread.
7 . The method of claim 1 including attaching an end cap to said sleeve.
8 . The method of claim 1 including attaching a muzzle brake to said sleeve.
9 . The method of claim 1 including heating said sleeve after filling said void defined by said barrel and said sleeve with filler material in excess of 100 degrees Fahrenheit.
10 . The method of claim 1 including:
removing all accessories forward said action of said barrel prior to placing said barrel in said sleeve; and,
attaching said accessories to said sleeve.
11 . The method of claim 1 including increasing the diameter of the portion of the rifle stock that received the barrel and action of said pre-existing rifle to accommodate the diameter of said sleeve when said pre-existing rifle is assembled with said barrel placed in said sleeve.
12 . The method of claim 1 including re-crowning said barrel.
13 . The method of claim 1 including cutting a shoulder stop in said barrel generally at the action end of said barrel so that said sleeve covers said barrel from said shoulder stop to the muzzle.
14 . The method of clam 1 including painting said barrel prior to inserting said barrel into said sleeve and prior to filling said void.
15 . The method of claim 1 wherein said sleeve is less than 5 meters in length and the bore of said barrel has a diameter less than 20 mm.
16 . A modified rifle barrel prepared by the method of claim 1 .
17 . The method of claim 1 wherein said filler material is made from material from the group of calcium sulfate, cement, amorphous silica, alumina, limestone dust, clay, quartz, calcium hydroxide calcium sulfo aluminate, perlite and any combination thereof.
18 . A method for modifying a pre-existing rifle barrel comprising:
providing a sleeve having a diameter larger than said outer diameter of said barrel for receiving said barrel thereby defining a void arranged between said barrel and said sleeve when said barrel is placed in said sleeve; modifying said barrel to reduce the diameter of said barrel near the breach area of said barrel so that said sleeve will cover said barrel up to the action when said barrel is placed in said sleeve; placing said barrel in said sleeve so that said sleeve covers said barrel forward said action; filling said void defined by said barrel and said sleeve with filler material; and, attaching an end cap to said sleeve.
19 . The method of claim 18 including cutting at least one circumferential groove in said barrel located generally at the muzzle end of said barrel.
20 . The method of claim 18 including:
providing an alignment tool;
inserting said alignment tool in said muzzle of said barrel after said barrel in placed in said sleeve; and,
aligning said barrel with said sleeve using said alignment tool.
21 . The method of claim 20 wherein aligning said barrel with said sleeve using said alignment tool is preformed after filling said void defined by said barrel and said sleeve with filler material.
22 . The method of claim 18 including heating said sleeve after filling said void defined by said barrel and said sleeve with filler material in excess of 100 degrees Fahrenheit.
23 . The method of claim 18 including wherein said end cap is a weld-on thread.
24 . The method of claim 23 including attaching a muzzle brake to said weld-on thread.
25 . The method of claim 18 including re-crowning said barrel.
26 . The method of claim 18 including cutting a shoulder stop in said barrel generally at the action end of said barrel.
27 . The method of clam 18 including painting said barrel prior to inserting said barrel into said sleeve and prior to filling said void.
28 . The method of claim 18 wherein said sleeve is less than 5 meters in length and the muzzle of said barrel has a diameter less than 20 mm.
29 . The method of claim 18 wherein said filler material is selected from the group of calcium sulfate, cement, amorphous silica, alumina, limestone dust, clay, quartz, calcium hydroxide calcium sulfo aluminate, perlite and any combination thereof.
30 . A modified rifle barrel prepared by the method of claim 18 .
31 . A rifle barrel having a length of less 5 meters comprising:
an interior rifle barrel having a shoulder stop and a bore diameter less than 20 mm; an exterior sleeve arranged around said interior rifle barrel defining a void between said rifle barrel and said sleeve wherein said sleeve is adjacent to said shoulder stop; filler material carried in said void defined between said rifle barrel and said sleeve; and, an end cap attached at the muzzle end of said sleeve having a central opening larger than the bore diameter of said rifle barrel.
32 . The rifle barrel of claim 31 including at least one circumferential groove arranged generally at the muzzle end of said barrel for receiving filler material thereby preventing.
33 . The rifle barrel of claim 31 wherein said end cap is a weld-on thread.
34 . The rifle barrel of claim 33 including a threaded muzzle brake attached to said weld-on thread.
35 . The rifle barrel of claim 31 including a muzzle brake attached to said end cap.
