Abstract

A system and method are set forth which combine an ability to view a motion video with an ability to simultaneously access computer programs. In certain embodiments, the media system provides access to movies, music and photos in a visually appealing three dimensional environment. In certain environments, the media system presents a three dimensional navigation tool (such as a three dimensional wheel) on which multiple motion video files are presented. A required resource value corresponding to system resources required to present individual motion videos is generated, followed by the generation of an available resource value corresponding to system resources available to present one or more motion videos. The available resource value and one or more required resource values are then processed to generate a consumed resource value, which is then used to limit the number of motion videos presented.

Claims

exact text as granted — not AI-modified
1 . A method for simultaneously accessing an application and viewing motion video comprising:
generating a media navigation screen presentation comprising a primary presentation portion and a multimedia portion, the primary presentation portion enabling access to an application, the multimedia portion presenting one or more motion videos within a three dimensional analog simultaneous with access to the application; generating an available resource value corresponding to system resources available to present the one or more motion videos; generating a required resource value corresponding to system resources required to present individual motion videos; processing the available resource value and one or more required resource values to generate a consumed resource value, the consumed resource value used to limit the number of motion videos presented and not exceeding the available resource value.

2 . The method of claim 1 further comprising:
enabling manipulation of the three dimensional analog to facilitate navigation of the one or more motion videos; and
enabling interaction with the application while presenting the one or more motion videos.

3 . The method of claim 1 wherein:
the three dimensional analog presents the one or more motion videos within a ring of motion video thumbnails, the ring of motion video thumbnails rotating about an axis when manipulated.

4 . The method of claim 3 further comprising:
presenting the ring of motion video thumbnails in an off axis orientation, the off axis orientation enabling at least part of a rear portion of the ring of motion video thumbnails to be visible within the primary presentation portion.

5 . The method of claim 3 further comprising:
enabling a user to select a motion video thumbnail from within the ring of motion video thumbnails, the selection actuating the selected motion video thumbnail so as to substantially maximize presentation of its corresponding motion video.

6 . The method of claim 1 wherein an individual of the one or more motion videos is presented in a degraded presentation state if its corresponding required resource value exceeds the available resource value.

7 . An apparatus of navigating media data comprising:
means for generating a media navigation screen presentation comprising a primary presentation portion and a multimedia portion, the primary presentation portion enabling access to an application, the multimedia portion presenting one or more motion videos within a three dimensional analog simultaneous with access to the application; means for generating an available resource value corresponding to system resources available to present the one or more motion videos; means for generating a required resource value corresponding to system resources required to present individual motion videos; and means for processing the available resource value and one or more required resource values to generate a consumed resource value, the consumed resource value used to limit the number of motion videos presented and not exceeding the available resource value.

8 . The apparatus of claim 7 further comprising:
means for enabling manipulation of the three dimensional analog to facilitate navigation of the one or more motion videos; and
means for enabling interaction with the application while presenting the one or more motion videos.

9 . The apparatus of claim 7 wherein:
the three dimensional analog presents the one or more motion videos within a ring of motion video thumbnails, the ring of motion video thumbnails rotating about an axis when manipulated.

10 . The apparatus of claim 9 further comprising:
means for presenting the ring of motion video thumbnails in an off axis orientation, the off axis orientation enabling at least part of a rear portion of the ring of motion video thumbnails to be visible within the primary presentation portion.

11 . The apparatus of claim 9 further comprising:
means for enabling a user to select a motion video thumbnail from within the ring of motion video thumbnails, the selection actuating the selected motion video thumbnail so as to substantially maximize presentation of its corresponding motion video.

12 . The apparatus of claim 7 wherein an individual of the one or more motion videos is presented in a degraded presentation state if its corresponding required resource value exceeds the available resource value.

13 . A media system stored on a computer readable medium, the media system comprising instructions executable by a processor for:
generating a media navigation screen presentation comprising a primary presentation portion and a multimedia portion, the primary presentation portion enabling access to an application, the multimedia portion presenting one or more motion videos within a three dimensional analog simultaneous with access to the application; generating an available resource value corresponding to system resources available to present the one or more motion videos; generating a required resource value corresponding to system resources required to present individual motion videos; and processing the available resource value and one or more required resource values to generate a consumed resource value, the consumed resource value used to limit the number of motion videos presented and not exceeding the available resource value.

14 . The media system of claim 13 wherein the instructions further comprise instructions for:
enabling manipulation of the three dimensional analog to facilitate navigation of the one or more motion videos; and
enabling interaction with the application while presenting the one or more motion videos.

15 . The media system of claim 13 wherein:
the three dimensional analog presents the one or more motion videos within a ring of motion video thumbnails, the ring of motion video thumbnails rotating about an axis when manipulated.

16 . The media system of claim 15 wherein the instructions further comprise instructions for:
presenting the ring of motion video thumbnails in an off axis orientation, the off axis orientation enabling at least part of a rear portion of the ring of motion video thumbnails to be visible within the primary presentation portion.

17 . The media system of claim 15 wherein the instructions further comprise instructions for:
