Abstract
A muffler for a vehicle is disposed in a channel for discharging exhaust gas from the engine. The muffler uniformly reduces all of a flow-induced noise, a high-frequency noise, and a low-frequency booming noise generated by the exhaust gas passing through the channel, and maximize effect of reducing the noises to keep the vehicle silent and comfortable.
Claims
exact text as granted — not AI-modified1 . A muffler for a vehicle, comprising:
an outer pipe having a long, hollow tubular shape; a first baffle, a second baffle, and a third baffle sequentially disposed in the outer pipe to divide the outer pipe into four chambers in the longitudinal direction; an inlet cap connected to one end of the outer pipe to define a first chamber between the first baffle and the inlet cap; an outlet cap connected to the other end of the outer pipe to define a fourth chamber between the third baffle with the outlet cap; an inlet pipe extending sequentially through the inlet cap, the first baffle, the second baffle, and the third baffle; an outlet pipe extending sequentially through the first baffle, the second baffle, the third baffle and the outlet cap; an intermediate pipe extending through the first baffle and the second baffle; and a sound-absorbing material disposed in a second chamber between the first baffle and the second baffle.
2 . The muffler for a vehicle as defined in claim 1 , wherein a first communication hole in the inlet pipe fluidly communicates the inlet pipe with the second chamber and a second communication hole in the outlet pipe fluidly communicates the second chamber with the outlet pipe.
3 . The muffler for a vehicle as defined in claim 2 , wherein at least one third communication holes formed in the first baffle fluidly connects the first chamber with the second chamber, and
at least one fourth communication holes formed in the second baffle fluidly connects the third chamber with the second chamber.
4 . The muffler for a vehicle as defined in claim 1 , wherein the second baffle is positioned a first distance from the inlet cap, and the outlet cap is positioned a second distance from the inlet cap, and wherein the first distance is within ½ the second distance.
5 . The muffler for a vehicle as defined in claim 4 , wherein a fifth communication hole formed in the inlet pipe fluidly communicates the third chamber with the inlet pipe.
6 . The muffler for a vehicle as defined in claim 5 , wherein at least one sixth communication hole formed in the third baffle fluidly connects the third chamber with the fourth chamber.
7 . The muffler for a vehicle as defined in claim 6 , wherein a seventh communication hole formed in the intermediate pipe fluidly communicates the second chamber with the intermediate pipe.
8 . The muffler for a vehicle as defined in claim 7 , wherein the sound-absorbing member is made of glass wool,
the inlet cap is a member sealing an inlet end of the outer pipe with the inlet pipe passing therethrough, and the outlet cap is a member sealing an outlet end of the outer pipe with the outlet pipe passing therethrough.Join the waitlist — get patent alerts
