Abstract

A system for communicating BPL signals is provided, including a BPL modem having a first internal modem and a second internal modem, the first internal modem and the second internal modem each in communication with a RF combiner; the RF combiner in communication with a medium voltage power line; and wherein the RF combiner combines signals from the first internal modem and the second internal modem into a single signal, and communicates the single signal to the medium voltage power line.

Claims

exact text as granted — not AI-modified
1 . A method of communicating signals from a BPL modem to a medium voltage power line, comprising:
 a) communicating a first signal for a medium voltage power line from a first signal source; b) communicating a second signal for the medium voltage power line from a second signal source; c) combining said first and second signals into a third signal prior to said signals reaching the medium voltage power line; and d) communicating said third signal to said medium voltage power line.

2 . The method of claim 1 wherein said first signal source is a first internal modem within a BPL modem.

3 . The method of claim 2 wherein said second signal source is a second internal modem within said BPL modem.

4 . The method of claim 3 wherein said first and second signals are combined by a RF combiner.

5 . The method of claim 4 wherein said first signal passes through a first RF filter prior to reaching said RF combiner.

6 . The method of claim 5 wherein said second signal passes through a second RF filter prior to reaching said RF combiner.

7 . The method of claim 6 wherein, after passing through said first RF filter, said first signal has a first allotted bandwidth.

8 . The method of claim 7 wherein, after passing through said second RF filter, said second signal has a second allotted bandwidth, said first allotted bandwidth not overlapping with said second allotted bandwidth.

9 . A system for communicating BPL signals, comprising:
 a) a BPL modem having a first internal modem and a second internal modem, said first internal modem and said second internal modem each in communication with a RF combiner; b) said RF combiner in communication with a medium voltage power line; wherein said RF combiner combines signals from said first internal modem and said second internal modem into a third signal, and communicates said third signal to said medium voltage power line.

10 . The system of claim 9 wherein said first internal modem communicates upstream signals.

11 . The system of claim 10 wherein said second internal modem communicates downstream signals.

12 . The system of claim 11 further comprising a first RF filter in communication with said first internal modem and said RF combiner.

13 . The system of claim 12 further comprising a second RF filter in communication with said second internal modem and said RF combiner.

14 . The system of claim 13 wherein, said first signal has a first allotted bandwidth, wherein said first RF filter filters a first signal from said first internal modem to said first allotted bandwidth.

15 . The system of claim 14 wherein, said second signal has a second allotted bandwidth, said first allotted bandwidth not overlapping with said second allotted bandwidth, wherein said second RF filter filters a second signal from said second internal modem to said second allotted bandwidth.
