Abstract
A host-client data sharing system manages diabetes care data. A host database, preferably web or internet based, is implemented for storing diabetes care data relating to multiple diabetics. A client or local database stores the diabetes care data relating to multiple diabetics on a personal appliance such as a PC, or a portable or handheld microprocessor-based computing device. The host database uses multiple servers for handling client interactions with the system.

50 . A handheld health monitoring unit comprising:
a user interface comprising a display to display at least one report comprising health signals of a user and a user input to receive input from the user, wherein the input from the user comprises a medication dosage and a food intake; and a microprocessor comprising programming to determine statistical data based on at least one of the health signals of the user and the input from the user and generate the report based on the health signals of the user and the input from the user, wherein the report comprises:
the health signals of the user that are within a target range, above the target range and below the target range over a time period;
an average of the health signals of the user over the time period;
an average of the medication dosage over the time period; and
an average of the food intake over the time period.
51 . The unit of claim 50 , wherein the statistical data comprises the standard deviation of the health signals of the user over the time period.

monitoring health signals of a user with a handheld health monitoring unit comprising a user interface including a display to display at least one report comprising the health signals of the user and a user input to receive input from the user, wherein the input from the user comprises a medication dosage and a food intake; determining statistical data using the handheld health monitoring unit, wherein the statistical data is based on at least one of the health signals of the user and the input from the user; generating the report based on the health signals of the user and the input from the user; and displaying the report, wherein the report comprises:
the health signals of the user that are within a target range, above the target range and below the target range over a time period;
an average of the health signals of the user over the time period;
an average of the medication dosage over the time period; and
an average of the food intake over the time period.

106 . A health care monitoring system comprising:
(a) a handheld health monitoring unit comprising:
(1) a user interface comprising a display to display at least one report comprising health signals of a user and a user input to receive input from the user, wherein the input from the user comprises a medication dosage and a food intake;
(2) a microprocessor comprising programming to determine statistical data based on at least one of the health signals of the user and the input from the user and generate the report based on the health signals of the user and the input from the user; and
(3) a first connector,
wherein the report comprises:
(i) the health signals of the user that are within a target range, above the target range and below the target range over a time period;
(ii) an average of the health signals of the user over the time period;
(iii) an average of the medication dosage over the time period; and
(iv) an average of the food intake over the time period; and
(b) a data management unit comprising a second connector, wherein the first connector and the second connector communicate data between the handheld health monitoring unit and the data management unit.
107 . The system of claim 106 , wherein the data communicated between the handheld health monitoring unit and the data management unit comprises at least one of the health signals of the user, the input from the user and the report.
108 . The system of claim 107 , wherein the data management unit further comprises a processor comprising programming to determine statistical data based on at least one of the health signals of the user and the input from the user, and to generate a report at the data management unit.
109 . The system of claim 108 , wherein the data management unit further comprises a display to display at least one of the report from the handheld health monitoring unit and the report from the data management unit.
110 . The system of claim 108 , wherein data management unit further comprises a data port to communicate data between the data management unit and a server.
111 . The system of claim 110 , wherein the data port communicates data between the data management unit and the server through a wired connection.
112 . The system of claim 110 , wherein the data port communicates data between the data management unit and the server through a wireless connection.
113 . The system of claim 110 , wherein the data communicated between the data management unit and the server comprises at least one of the health signals of the user, the input from the user, the report from the handheld health monitoring unit and the report from the data management unit.
114 . The system of claim 113 , wherein the server comprises a processor comprising programming to determine statistical data based on at least one of the health signals of the user and the input from the user, and to generate a report at the server.
115 . The system of claim 106 , wherein the input from the user further comprises one or more of a calibration code, a user symptom and a period of exercise.

118 . A program executable by a programmable data processor of a health care monitoring system, the program comprising:
program instructions for programming the programmable data processor of the health care monitoring system to perform a data protocol comprising:
(a) monitoring health signals of a user with a handheld health monitoring unit, the handheld health monitoring unit comprising a user interface including a display to display at least one report comprising the health signals of the user and a user input to receive input from the user, wherein the input from the user comprises a medication dosage and a food intake;
(b) determining statistical data using the handheld health monitoring unit, wherein the statistical data is based on at least one of the health signals of the user and the input from the user;
(c) generating the report based on the health signals of the user and the input from the user; and
(d) displaying the report, wherein the report comprises:
(1) the health signals of the user that are within a target range, above the target range and below the target range over a time period;
(2) an average of the health signals of the user over the time period;
(3) an average of the medication dosage over the time period; and
(4) an average of the food intake over the time period.
119 . The program of claim 118 , wherein the data protocol further comprises associating the health signals with a tag or the input from the user.
