Abstract
One embodiment includes an insert including a body portion; a plurality of tabs extending from the body portion, wherein the tabs are tapered; and wherein the insert is constructed and arranged to provide damping.
Claims
exact text as granted — not AI-modified1 . An insert comprising:
a body portion; a plurality of tabs extending from the body portion, wherein the tabs are tapered; and wherein the insert is constructed and arranged to provide damping.
2 . An insert as set forth in claim 1 wherein the body portion has an annular portion comprising an inner edge and an outer edge; and wherein the plurality of tabs extend from at least one of the inner edge or the outer edge of the annular portion.
3 . An insert as set forth in claim 1 wherein the body portion comprises steel.
4 . An insert as set forth in claim 1 wherein the tabs have a triangular shape.
5 . An insert as set forth in claim 1 further comprising a coating over at least a portion of the insert.
6 . An insert as set forth in claim 5 wherein the coating is about 1 μm to about 400 μm thick.
7 . An insert as set forth in claim 5 wherein the coating comprises at least one of silica, alumina, graphite with clay, silicon carbide, silicon nitride, cordierite (magnesium-iron-aluminum silicate), mullite (aluminum silicate), zirconia (zirconium oxide), phyllosilicates, other high-temperature-resistant particles, clay, Al 2 O 3 , SiO 2 , an organic binder, an inorganic binder, a lignosulfonate binder, a calcium lignosulfonate binder, cristobalite (SiO 2 ), a fiber, a ceramic fiber, a mineral fiber, quartz, an epoxy resin, a phosphoric acid binding agent, calcium aluminates, sodium silicates, wood flour, non-refractory polymeric materials, ceramics, composites, wood, or a liquid dispersed mixture of alumina-silicate-based, organically bonded refractory mix.
8 . An insert as set forth in claim 1 further comprising a layer comprising particles or fibers over at least a portion of the insert.

18 . A frictional damping insert comprising a body constructed and arranged to frictionally damp a part, the insert having a thickness of about 0.1 mm to about 2.5 mm, and a plurality of tapered tabs extending from the body.
19 . A frictional damping insert as set forth in claim 18 wherein the tabs have a triangular shape.
20 . A frictional damping insert as set forth in claim 18 wherein the body is annular.Join the waitlist — get patent alerts
