Abstract
Disclosed herein are compositions and methods for promoting the repair and regeneration of injured tissues, such as injuries resulting from ischemic damage. Also disclosed are compositions and methods for accelerating wound healing in diabetic and elderly patients and inhibiting allograft failure.
Claims
exact text as granted — not AI-modified1 . A method of accelerating wound healing in a subject, comprising administering to a subject in need of wound healing a composition comprising a therapeutically effective amount of suramin or an analogue or derivative thereof.
2 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the subject is diabetic.
3 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the subject is a kidney transplant recipient.
4 . The method of claim 3 , wherein the wound healing needed is in the donor kidney.
5 . The method of claim 4 , wherein the wound of the donor organ is caused by ischemia reperfusion injury.
6 . The method of claim 5 , wherein the wound is to the nephrons.
7 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the subject is aged.
8 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the wound is a dermal wound.
9 . The method of claim 8 , wherein the wound is acne.
10 . The method of claim 8 , wherein the wound is the caused by cosmetic surgery or a graft.
11 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the subject has been diagnosed with a dermal laceration or abrasion.
12 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the subject has been diagnosed with a corneal laceration or abrasion.
13 . The method of claim 1 , further comprising monitoring the subject for tissue repair.
14 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the composition stimulates cell migration and proliferation, thereby accelerating repair, regeneration, and recovery of function.
15 . The method of claim 1 , wherein wound is an ulcer.
16 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the amount of composition administered to the subject is less than 5 μg.
17 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the amount of composition administered to the subject is less than 15 μg.
18 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the amount of composition administered to the subject is less than 1.5 μg.
19 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the amount of composition administered to the subject is 0.15 μg.
20 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the suramin or an analogue or derivative thereof has the structure
wherein R 1a and R 1b are, independently, hydrogen, hydroxyl, alkyl, aryl, alkoxy, carboxyl, ester, ester, amino, or amide, and
wherein R 2a and R 2b are, independently, hydrogen, hydroxyl, alkyl, aryl, acyl, alkoxy, carboxyl, ester, ester, amino, amide, or halide.
21 . The method of claim 20 , wherein R 1a and/or R 1b are substituted naphthalene, aniline or phenyl, such as, for example, aminonaphthalene-4,6,8-trisulfonic acid, aminonaphthalene-3,6,8-trisulfonic acid, aniline-3-sulfonic acid, aninline-4-sulfonic acid, aniline-2,4-disulfonic acid, aniline-2,5-disulfonic acid, aninline-3-phosphonic acid, aniline-4-phosphonic acid, 4-methylaniline-3-phosphonic acid, or phenyl sulfonic acid.
22 . A method of inhibiting allograft failure in a graft recipient comprising administering to recipient of the graft a composition comprising a therapeutically effective amount of suramin or an analogue or derivative thereof.
23 . The method of claim 22 , wherein the graft is a kidney.
24 . The method of claim 22 , wherein the graft failure is related to nephron loss.
25 . The method of claim 22 , wherein the graft failure results from ischemia reperfusion injury to the graft.
26 . The method of claim 22 , wherein the suramin or an analogue or derivative thereof comprises the structure
wherein R 1a and R 1b are, independently, hydrogen, hydroxyl, alkyl, aryl, alkoxy, carboxyl, ester, ester, amino, or amide, and
wherein R 2a and R 2b are, independently, hydrogen, hydroxyl, alkyl, aryl, acyl, alkoxy, carboxyl, ester, ester, amino, amide, or halide.

The method of claim 26 , wherein R 1a and/or R 1b are substituted naphthalene, aniline or phenyl, such as, for example, aminonaphthalene-4,6,8-trisulfonic acid, aminonaphthalene-3,6,8-trisulfonic acid, aniline-3-sulfonic acid, aninline-4-sulfonic acid, aniline-2,4-disulfonic acid, aniline-2,5-disulfonic acid, aninline-3-phosphonic acid, aniline-4-phosphonic acid, 4-methylaniline-3-phosphonic acid, or phenyl sulfonic acid.
28 . A method of promoting tissue repair and/or wound healing in a subject, comprising administering to a subject in need of tissue repair and/or regeneration a composition comprising a therapeutically effective amount of a compound comprising the structure:
wherein R 1a and R 1b are, independently, hydrogen, hydroxyl, alkyl, aryl, alkoxy, carboxyl, ester, ester, amino, or amide, and
wherein R 2a and R 2b are, independently, hydrogen, hydroxyl, alkyl, aryl, acyl, alkoxy, carboxyl, ester, ester, amino, amide, or halide.

The method of claim 28 , wherein R 1a and/or R 1b are substituted naphthalene, aniline or phenyl, such as, for example, aminonaphthalene-4,6,8-trisulfonic acid, aminonaphthalene-3,6,8-trisulfonic acid, aniline-3-sulfonic acid, aninline-4-sulfonic acid, aniline-2,4-disulfonic acid, aniline-2,5-disulfonic acid, aninline-3-phosphonic acid, aniline-4-phosphonic acid, 4-methylaniline-3-phosphonic acid, or phenyl sulfonic acid.
30 . The method of claim 28 , wherein the tissue repair and/or wound healing needed is associated with wounds or tissue damage to one or more kidneys.
31 . The method of claim 30 , wherein the kidney damage or wounding is to the nephrons.
32 . The method of claim 30 , wherein the kidney damage or wounding is caused by ischemia reperfusion injury.
33 . The method of claim 30 , wherein the subject is diabetic.
34 . The method of claim 30 , wherein the subject is aged.
35 . The method of claim 30 , wherein the subject is a kidney transplant recipient.
36 . The method of claim 30 , wherein the wound is an ulcer.
37 . The method of claim 30 , wherein the would is a dermal wound.
