Abstract
The present invention relates to compositions and methods for use in the prevention or treatment of excess weight in a mammal. The compositions comprise oxyntomodulin which is shown to reduce food intake and/or increase energy expenditure.

38 . A method for weight control or treatment, in a subject, comprising administering an effective amount of an oxyntomodulin and one or more additional agents chosen from a Glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1), a GLP-1 agonist, an amylin, a leptin, or an exendin-4.

The method of claim 38 , wherein the oxyntomodulin and the one or more additional agents has one or more of the following effects: decreases calorie intake or food intake; prevents or reduces weight; induces weight loss; controls appetite, satiety or hunger, reduces weight; reduces or prevents obesity; or increases energy expenditure.
40 . The method of claim 38 , wherein the oxyntomodulin is a human oxyntomodulin.
41 . The method of claim 38 , wherein the oxyntomodulin comprises the sequence of SEQ ID NO:9.
42 . The method of claim 38 , wherein the weight control or treatment t is achieved by reducing levels of circulating ghrelin.
43 . The method of claim 38 , wherein the oxyntomodulin is administered via a route peripheral to the brain.
44 . The method of claim 43 , wherein the oxyntomodulin is administered by oral, rectal, intravenous, intramuscular, intraperitoneal, buccal, sublingual, nasal, subcutaneous, or transdermal administration, or by inhalation.
45 . The method of claim 38 , wherein the one or more additional agents is administered via a route peripheral to the brain.
46 . The method of claim 38 , wherein the one or more additional agents is administered by oral, rectal, intravenous, intramuscular, intraperitoneal, buccal, sublingual, nasal, subcutaneous, or transdermal administration, or by inhalation.
47 . The method of claim 38 , wherein the one or more additional agents is administered at a dose of 0.1 nmoles or more per kg body weight of the subject.
48 . The method of claim 38 , wherein the one or more additional agents is administered at a dose of up to 3.2 nmoles per kg body weight of the subject.
49 . The method of claim 38 , wherein the oxyntomodulin is administered at a dose of 0.1 nmoles or more per kg body weight of the subject.
50 . The method of claim 38 , wherein the oxyntomodulin is administered at a dose of up to 12 nmoles per kg body weight of the subject.
51 . The method of claim 38 , wherein the oxyntomodulin is administered before a meal.
52 . The method of claim 38 , wherein the oxyntomodulin is administered at a dose of 0.5 mg to 2 mg before a meal.
53 . The method of claim 38 , wherein the oxyntomodulin and the one or more additional agents is administered simultaneously.
54 . The method of claim 38 , wherein the oxyntomodulin and the one or more additional agents is administered sequentially in any order.
55 . The method of claim 38 , which comprises administering GLP-1, or an agonist thereof.
56 . The method of claim 38 , which comprises administering amylin.
57 . The method of claim 38 , which comprises administering leptin.
58 . The method of claim 38 , which comprises administering exendin-4.
59 . The method of claim 38 , which further comprises administering PYY or an agonist thereof.
60 . The method of claim 38 , wherein the subject is a human.
