Wireless email communications system providing device capability set update features and related methods
Abstract
plurality of mobile wireless communications devices each having a subscriber account associated therewith including a respective personal identification number (PIN) and a device identification (ID). Each device ID may have associated therewith a device capability set from among a plurality of device capability sets. The system may further include at least one electronic mail (email) server including a database of subscriber accounts and for sending emails to and receiving emails from the mobile wireless communications devices based upon the PINs and device IDs. The at least one email server may compare a given PIN and device ID, based upon a communication from a given mobile wireless device, with a corresponding PIN and device ID for the corresponding subscriber account in the database, and update a corresponding device capability set for the corresponding subscriber account based upon a discrepancy.

21 . A wireless communications system comprising:
a plurality of mobile wireless communications devices each having a subscriber account associated therewith including a respective personal identification number (PIN) and a device identification (ID), each device ID having associated therewith an image display capability set from among a plurality of image display capability sets; and at least one electronic mail (email) server comprising a database of subscriber accounts and configured to send emails and receive emails from said mobile wireless communications devices based upon the PINs and device IDs; said at least one email server configured to compare a given PIN and device ID, based upon a communication from a given mobile wireless communications device, with a corresponding PIN and device ID for the corresponding subscriber account in said database, and update a corresponding image display capability set for the corresponding subscriber account based upon a discrepancy.
22 . The wireless communications system of claim 21 wherein the discrepancy comprises a difference between the device ID associated with the communication from said given mobile wireless device and the device ID in the corresponding subscriber account.
23 . The wireless communications system of claim 21 wherein said at least one email server is configured to prompt said given mobile wireless communications device to provide the communication.
24 . The wireless communications system of claim 21 wherein the device IDs comprise International Mobile Station Equipment Identities (IMEIs).
25 . The wireless communications system of claim 21 wherein said at least one email server interfaces with said given wireless communications device via at least one of a Hypertext Markup Language (HTML) interface, and a Wireless Markup Language (WML) interface.

The wireless communications system of claim 21 further comprising at least one wireless communications network for establishing wireless communications links with said mobile wireless communications devices; and wherein said at least one email server sends emails to and receives emails from said mobile wireless communications devices via said at least one wireless communications network.

An email server configured to send emails to and receive emails from a plurality of mobile wireless communications devices, each having a subscriber account associated therewith including a respective personal identification number (PIN) and a device identification (ID), based upon the PINs and device IDs, each device ID having associated therewith an image display capability set from among a plurality of image display capability sets, the email server comprising:
a database of subscriber accounts; and a controller cooperating with said database and configured to compare a given PIN and device ID, based upon a communication from a given mobile wireless communications device, with a corresponding PIN and device ID for the corresponding subscriber account in said database, and update a corresponding image display capability set for the corresponding subscriber account based upon a discrepancy.
28 . The email server of claim 27 wherein the discrepancy comprises a difference between the device ID associated with the communication from the given mobile wireless device and the device ID in the corresponding subscriber account.
29 . The email server of claim 27 wherein said controller is configured to prompt the given mobile wireless communications device to provide the communication.
30 . The email server of claim 27 wherein the device IDs comprise International Mobile Station Equipment Identities (IMEIs).
31 . The email server of claim 27 wherein said controller interfaces with the given wireless communications device via at least one of a Hypertext Markup Language (HTML) interface and a Wireless Markup Language (WML) interface.
32 . A wireless communications system comprising:
a plurality of mobile wireless communications devices each having a subscriber account associated therewith including a respective personal identification number (PIN) and a device identification (ID), each device ID having associated therewith a file attachment handling capability set from among a plurality of file attachment handling capability sets; and at least one electronic mail (email) server comprising a database of subscriber accounts and configured to send emails and receive emails from said mobile wireless communications devices based upon the PINs and device IDs; said at least one email server configured to compare a given PIN and device ID, based upon a communication from a given mobile wireless communications device, with a corresponding PIN and device ID for the corresponding subscriber account in said database, and update a corresponding file attachment handling capability set for the corresponding subscriber account based upon a discrepancy.
33 . The wireless communications system of claim 32 wherein the discrepancy comprises a difference between the device ID associated with the communication from said given mobile wireless device and the device ID in the corresponding subscriber account.
34 . The wireless communications system of claim 32 wherein said at least one email server is configured to prompt said given mobile wireless communications device to provide the communication.
35 . The wireless communications system of claim 32 wherein the device IDs comprise International Mobile Station Equipment Identities (IMEIs).
36 . The wireless communications system of claim 32 wherein said at least one email server interfaces with said given wireless communications device via at least one of a Hypertext Markup Language (HTML) interface, and a Wireless Markup Language (WML) interface.

The wireless communications system of claim 32 further comprising at least one wireless communications network for establishing wireless communications links with said mobile wireless communications devices; and wherein said at least one email server sends emails to and receives emails from said mobile wireless communications devices via said at least one wireless communications network.

An email server configured to send emails to and receive emails from a plurality of mobile wireless communications devices, each having a subscriber account associated therewith including a respective personal identification number (PIN) and a device identification (ID), based upon the PINs and device IDs, each device ID having associated therewith a file attachment handling capability set from among a plurality of file attachment handling capability sets, the email server comprising:
a database of subscriber accounts; and a controller cooperating with said database and configured to compare a given PIN and device ID, based upon a communication from a given mobile wireless communications device, with a corresponding PIN and device ID for the corresponding subscriber account in said database, and update a corresponding file attachment handling capability set for the corresponding subscriber account based upon a discrepancy.
39 . The email server of claim 38 wherein the discrepancy comprises a difference between the device ID associated with the communication from the given mobile wireless device and the device ID in the corresponding subscriber account.
40 . The email server of claim 38 wherein said controller is configured to prompt the given mobile wireless communications device to provide the communication.
41 . The email server of claim 38 wherein the device IDs comprise International Mobile Station Equipment Identities (IMEIs).
42 . The email server of claim 38 wherein said controller interfaces with the given wireless communications device via at least one of a Hypertext Markup Language (HTML) interface and a Wireless Markup Language (WML) interface.
43 . A wireless communications system comprising:
a plurality of mobile wireless communications devices each having a subscriber account associated therewith including a respective personal identification number (PIN) and a device identification (ID), each device ID having associated therewith a communications interface capability set from among a plurality of communications interface capability sets; and at least one electronic mail (email) server comprising a database of subscriber accounts and configured to send emails and receive emails from said mobile wireless communications devices based upon the PINs and device IDs; said at least one email server configured to compare a given PIN and device ID, based upon a communication from a given mobile wireless communications device, with a corresponding PIN and device ID for the corresponding subscriber account in said database, and update a corresponding communications interface capability set for the corresponding subscriber account based upon a discrepancy.
44 . The wireless communications system of claim 43 wherein the discrepancy comprises a difference between the device ID associated with the communication from said given mobile wireless device and the device ID in the corresponding subscriber account.
45 . The wireless communications system of claim 43 wherein said at least one email server is configured to prompt said given mobile wireless communications device to provide the communication.
46 . The wireless communications system of claim 43 wherein the device IDs comprise International Mobile Station Equipment Identities (IMEIs).
47 . The wireless communications system of claim 43 wherein said at least one email server interfaces with said given wireless communications device via at least one of a Hypertext Markup Language (HTML) interface, and a Wireless Markup Language (WML) interface.

The wireless communications system of claim 43 further comprising at least one wireless communications network for establishing wireless communications links with said mobile wireless communications devices; and wherein said at least one email server sends emails to and receives emails from said mobile wireless communications devices via said at least one wireless communications network.

An email server configured to send emails to and receive emails from a plurality of mobile wireless communications devices, each having a subscriber account associated therewith including a respective personal identification number (PIN) and a device identification (ID), based upon the PINs and device IDs, each device ID having associated therewith a communications interface capability set from among a plurality of communications interface capability sets, the email server comprising:
a database of subscriber accounts; and a controller cooperating with said database and configured to compare a given PIN and device ID, based upon a communication from a given mobile wireless communications device, with a corresponding PIN and device ID for the corresponding subscriber account in said database, and update a corresponding communications interface capability set for the corresponding subscriber account based upon a discrepancy.
50 . The email server of claim 49 wherein the discrepancy comprises a difference between the device ID associated with the communication from the given mobile wireless device and the device ID in the corresponding subscriber account.
51 . The email server of claim 49 wherein said controller is configured to prompt the given mobile wireless communications device to provide the communication.
52 . The email server of claim 49 wherein the device IDs comprise International Mobile Station Equipment Identities (IMEIs).
53 . The email server of claim 49 wherein said controller interfaces with the given wireless communications device via at least one of a Hypertext Markup Language (HTML) interface and a Wireless Markup Language (WML) interface.
54 . A wireless communications system comprising:
a plurality of mobile wireless communications devices each having a subscriber account associated therewith including a respective personal identification number (PIN) and a device identification (ID), each device ID having associated therewith a device capability set from among a plurality of device capability sets; and at least one electronic mail (email) server comprising a database of subscriber accounts and configured to send emails and receive emails from said mobile wireless communications devices based upon the PINs and device IDs; said at least one email server configured to compare a given PIN and device ID, based upon a communication from a given mobile wireless communications device, with a corresponding PIN and device ID for the corresponding subscriber account in said database, and update a corresponding device capability set for the corresponding subscriber account based upon a discrepancy.
55 . The wireless communications system of claim 54 wherein the discrepancy comprises a difference between the device ID associated with the communication from said given mobile wireless device and the device ID in the corresponding subscriber account.
56 . The wireless communications system of claim 54 wherein said at least one email server is configured to prompt said given mobile wireless communications device to provide the communication.
57 . The wireless communications system of claim 54 wherein the device IDs comprise International Mobile Station Equipment Identities (IMEIs).
