Abstract

An inventive changing garment is provided herewith. Generally, the changing garment comprises a rectangular piece of fabric having curved ends with an outer fabric layer being made from a waterproof or water-resistant fabric and lined with an inner fabric layer of non-water-resistant or non-waterproof fabric, a fastener for securing one end of the garment to the other, and a gathered perimeter for securing the bottom of the fabric around the child's waist and the top of the fabric around the child's shoulders.

1 . A changing garment for use on a torso of a child when changing a child's diaper or clothing, said changing garment comprising:
 a fabric panel having a substantially elongated configuration with a first end and a second end and a top portion and a bottom portion substantially perpendicular to said first and second ends;   wherein the fabric panel is of a sufficient length to substantially encircle the torso portion of a child's body with said first end and said second ends overlapping one another;   wherein said fabric panel has an outer surface and an inner surface;   wherein the outer surface includes an outer fabric layer made from a water resistant material;   wherein the inner surface includes an inner fabric layer made from a soft material, suitable for contact with the skin of a child;   a fastener cooperatively engages the first end and the second end when said fabric panel encircles the torso of the child;   a first elastic band is affixed between the top portions of the fabric layers substantially perpendicular to the end portions and a second elastic band is affixed between the bottom portions of the fabric layer perpendicular to the ends.   
     
     
         2 . A changing garment according to  claim 1 , in which said fastener is comprised of hook and loop type fastener material strips. 
     
     
         3 . A changing garment according to  claim 1 , in which said fastener is comprised of a plurality of male snaps and female snaps. 
     
     
         4 . A changing garment according to  claim 1 , in which said ends are outwardly curved flaps. 
     
     
         5 . A changing garment for use on a torso of a child when changing a child's diaper or clothing, said changing garment comprising:
 a fabric panel having a substantially elongated configuration with a first end and a second end and a top portion and a bottom portion substantially perpendicular to said first and second ends;   wherein the fabric panel is of a sufficient length to substantially encircle the torso portion of a child's body with said first end and said second ends overlapping one another;   wherein said fabric panel has an outer surface and an inner surface;   wherein the outer surface includes an outer fabric layer made from a water resistant material;   wherein the inner surface includes an inner fabric layer made from a soft material, suitable for contact with the skin of a child;   a fastener cooperatively engages the first end and the second end when said fabric panel encircles the torso of the child;   a first drawstring is affixed between the top portions of the fabric layers substantially perpendicular to the ends and a second drawstring is affixed between the bottom portions of the fabric layer perpendicular to end portions.   
     
     
         6 . A changing garment according to  claim 5 , in which said fastener is comprised of hook and loop type fastener material strips. 
     
     
         7 . A changing garment according to  claim 5 , in which said fastener is comprised of a plurality of male snaps and female snaps. 
     
     
         8 . A changing garment according to  claim 5 , in which said ends are outwardly curved flaps. 
     
     
         9 . A changing garment for use on a torso of a child when changing a child's diaper or clothing, said changing garment comprising:
 a fabric panel having a substantially elongated configuration with a first end and a second end and a top portion and a bottom portion substantially perpendicular to said first and second ends;   wherein the fabric panel is of a sufficient length to substantially encircle the torso portion of a child's body with said first end and said second ends overlapping one another;   wherein said fabric panel has an outer surface and an inner surface;   wherein the outer surface includes an outer fabric layer made from a water resistant material;   wherein the inner surface includes an inner fabric layer made from a soft material, suitable for contact with the skin of a child;   wherein the ends are outwardly curved flaps;   a fastener cooperatively engages the first end and the second end when said fabric panel encircles the torso of the child;   wherein said fastener is comprised of hook and loop type fastener material strips;   a first elastic band is affixed between the top portions of the fabric layers substantially perpendicular to the ends; and   a second elastic band is affixed between the bottom portions of the fabric layer perpendicular to the ends.   
     
     
         10 . A changing garment according to  claim 9 , in which a toy is affixed to the inner surface. 
     
     
         11 . A changing garment for use on a torso of a child when changing a child's diaper or clothing, said changing garment comprising:
 a fabric panel having a substantially elongated configuration with a first end and a second end and a top portion and a bottom portion substantially perpendicular to said first and second ends;   wherein the fabric panel is of sufficient length to substantially encircle the torso portion of child's body;   wherein said fabric panel has an outer surface and an inner surface;   wherein the outer surface includes an outer fabric layer made from a water resistant material;   wherein the inner surface includes an inner fabric layer made from a soft material, suitable for contact with the skin of a child.   a fastener cooperatively engages the first end and the second end when said fabric panel encircles the torso of the child;   a first elastic band is affixed between an edge region of the top portions of the fabric layers and a second elastic band is affixed between an edge region of the bottom portions of the fabric layer.   
     
     
         12 . A changing garment according to  claim 11 , in which the fastener is comprised of a zipper tape eyelets. 
     
     
         13 . A changing garment for use on a torso of a child when changing a child's diaper or clothing, said changing garment comprising:
 a fabric panel having a substantially elongated configuration with a first end and a second end and a top portion and a bottom portion substantially perpendicular to said first and second ends;   wherein the fabric panel is of sufficient length to substantially encircle the torso portion of child's body;   wherein said fabric panel has an outer surface and an inner surface;   wherein the outer surface includes an outer fabric layer made from a water resistant material;   wherein the inner surface includes an inner fabric layer made from a soft material, suitable for contact with the skin of a child.   a fastener cooperatively engages the first end and the second end when said fabric panel encircles the torso of the child;   a first drawstring is affixed between the top portions of the fabric layers substantially perpendicular to the ends and a second drawstring is affixed between the bottom portions of the fabric layer perpendicular to end portions.   
     
     
         14 . A changing garment according to  claim 13 , in which the fastener is comprised of a zipper tape eyelets. 
     
     
         15 . A changing garment for use on a torso of a child when changing a child's diapers or clothing, said changing garment comprising:
 a fabric panel having a substantially elongated and continuous configuration;   wherein the fabric panel having a top portion and a bottom portion is of a sufficient length to substantially encircle the torso portion of a child's body;   wherein said fabric panel has an outer surface and an inner surface;   wherein the outer surface includes an outer fabric layer made from a water resistant material;   wherein the inner surface includes an inner fabric layer made from a soft material, suitable for contact with the skin of a child;   a first elastic band is affixed between an edge region of the top portions of the fabric layers and a second elastic band is affixed between an edge region of the bottom portions of the fabric layer.   
     
     
         16 . A method of changing a child's diaper using a changing garment having of fabric panel with ends and a top edge and a bottom edge, a fastening means to secure one end portion of the fabric panel to the other end portion, and an elastic perimeter for securing the bottom edge of the fabric around a child's waist and the top edge of the fabric around a child's shoulders, said method comprising the steps of:
 placing said changing garment on a surface that supports the child;   placing the child on top of said changing garment so that the child's shoulders are touching the top edge of said changing garment and the child's waist is touching the bottom edge of said changing garment;   affixing one end portion of the fabric panel to the other end portion of the fabric panel such that the child's arm are covered by said changing garment;   and changing the child's diaper.   
     
     
         17 . A method of changing a child's diaper comprising the steps of:
 providing a changing garment having a fabric panel with two ends and a top portion and a bottom portion, a fastening means to secure one end of the fabric panel to the other end, and an elastic perimeter for securing the bottom portion of the fabric around a child's waist and the top portion of the fabric around a child's shoulders;   securing the changing garment around the child; and   changing the child's diaper.
