Replaceable cartridge for diversionary device
Abstract
A replaceable cartridge is provided for insertion into a diversionary device. The cartridge includes a housing with a first chamber containing an ignitable composition. A breakable seal covers a first end of the first chamber. The cartridge also includes a piston within the housing and having a first position at a second end of the first chamber. The piston is movable towards the second end of the first chamber whereby, when a trigger for the diversionary device is activated, the piston moves towards the first end of the first chamber to discharge the ignitable composition through the breakable seal for subsequent ignition outside of the diversionary device.
Claims
exact text as granted — not AI-modified1 . A cartridge for insertion into a diversionary device, comprising:
a housing; a first chamber within the housing containing an ignitable composition; a breakable seal covering a first end of the first chamber; and a first piston within the housing and having a first position at a second end of the first chamber, the first piston being movable towards the second end of the first chamber whereby, when a trigger for the diversionary device is activated, the first piston moves towards the first end of the first chamber to discharge the ignitable composition through the breakable seal for subsequent ignition outside of the diversionary device.
2 . The cartridge of claim 1 , further comprising a large primer aligned with the first piston, whereby the trigger for the diversionary device ignites the large primer to force the first piston towards the first end of the first chamber.
3 . The cartridge of claim 1 , further comprising:
a second chamber within the housing containing an oxidizer, the breakable seal covering a first end of the second chamber; and a second piston within the housing and having a first position at a second end of the second chamber, the second piston being movable towards the second end of the second chamber whereby, when the trigger is activated, the second piston moves towards the first end of the second chamber to discharge the oxidizer through the breakable seal to enhance the ignition of the ignitable material.
4 . The cartridge of claim 3 , wherein the second piston has a weight which is greater than a weight of the first piston, whereby when the trigger is activated, the second piston moves towards the first end of the second chamber at a speed less than a speed with which the first piston moves towards the first end of the first chamber, thereby delaying the discharge of the oxidizer through the second breakable seal relative to the discharge of the ignitable composition through the first breakable seal.
5 . The cartridge of claim 3 , further comprising:
a primer mount against the breakable seal, the primer mount having:
a central first opening formed therethrough aligned with the first end of the second chamber and through which the oxidizer is discharged; and
a plurality of second openings surrounding the central opening;
a plurality of small primers inserted into the second openings; and first and second large primers aligned with the first and second pistons, respectively; whereby:
the trigger for the diversionary device ignites the first and second large primers to force the first and second pistons towards the first end of the first and second chambers; and
when the second piston strikes the plurality of small primers, the small primers ignite and cause the ignitable composition to ignite outside of the diversionary device.
6 . The cartridge of claim 5 , wherein the first and second large primers comprise shotgun primers.
7 . The cartridge of claim 3 , wherein the ignitable composition comprises powdered aluminum and the oxidizer comprises potassium perchlorate.
8 . The cartridge of claim 1 , further comprising an electrical source for supplying power to the diversionary device.
9 . The cartridge of claim 1 , wherein the ignitable composition comprises powdered aluminum.Join the waitlist — get patent alerts
