Abstract

The cosmetic of the present invention is a cosmetic that alleviates skin irritation by blending in polypropylene glycol, a specific polar oil, or polybutylene glycol, as well as an ultraviolet absorbent. The present invention also relates to an agent and a method for alleviating irritation by lipophilic drugs. Since the present invention alleviates skin irritation due to ultraviolet absorbents and lipophilic drugs in cosmetics, any amount of ultraviolet absorbents and lipophilic drugs can be blended in cosmetics, and therefore cosmetics that can fully manifest their effects can be provided. Also, it is possible to prepare a safe sunblock cosmetic with superior ultraviolet protection effects because the ultraviolet absorbent is not absorbed through skin.

         19 . A cosmetic composition comprising:
 (a) octyl methoxycinnamate; and   (b) polybutylene glycol having a number average molecular weight of from about 700 to about 4,800.   
     
     
         20 . The cosmetic composition of  claim 19 , wherein the octyl methoxycinnamate is present in an amount of from about 0.01 to about 10.0 mass %. 
     
     
         21 . The cosmetic composition of  claim 19 , wherein the composition is a sunblock cosmetic composition, and wherein the octyl methoxycinnamate is present in an amount of from about 5.0 to about 15.0 mass %. 
     
     
         22 . The cosmetic composition of  claim 19 , wherein the polybutylene glycol is present in an amount of from about 0.1 to about 20.0 mass %. 
     
     
         23 . The cosmetic composition of  claim 19 , wherein the polybutylene glycol is present in an amount of from about 1.0 to about 10.0 mass %. 
     
     
         24 . The cosmetic composition of  claim 19 , wherein the blend ratio of the polybutylene glycol is from about 10 to about 50 mass % of the octyl methoxycinnamate. 
     
     
         25 . The cosmetic composition of  claim 19 , wherein the composition comprises:
 7.5 mass % of octyl methoxycinnamate; and   1 to 4 mass % of polybutylene glycol.
