Abstract

Described herein are embodiments of a system for receiving wireless power from a high-Q resonator that include a base for a portable device, having surfaces that are shaped to mechanically hold to outer surfaces of a portable device, and having a high-Q magnetic resonator therein, said resonator formed of a coil portion in series with a capacitive portion, said resonator having an LC value which is tuned to a specified frequency.

Claims

exact text as granted — not AI-modified
1 . A system for receiving wireless power from a high-Q resonator, comprising:
a base for a portable device, having surfaces that are shaped to mechanically hold to outer surfaces of a portable device, and having a high-Q magnetic resonator therein, said resonator formed of a coil portion in series with a capacitive portion, said resonator having an LC value which is tuned to a specified frequency.

2 . A system as in claim 1 , wherein said resonator is integrated in a location which defines substantially a perimeter of the portable device.

3 . A system as in claim 2 , wherein said perimeter of the base is substantially disk shaped.

4 . A system as in claim 2 , wherein said inner surfaces are sized to hold a portable phone.

5 . A system as in claim 1 , further comprising a magnetic generator, wherein said magnetic generator produces magnetic energy at a frequency that is resonant with a frequency defined by said resonator and said base.

6 . A system as in claim 1 , wherein said magnetically resonant resonator includes a coil in series with a capacitor.

7 . A system as in claim 1 , further comprising electrical contacts which connect to the portable device.

8 . A system as in claim 6 , wherein said magnetically resonant resonator also includes a coupling loop, electrically separate from the coil and capacitor, wherein said coil and capacitor are not electrically connected to said contacts.

         9 . A system, comprising:
a high-Q generator of magnetic energy, generating at a first frequency, said generator having an inductive coil and a capacitor with an LC value that is resonant with said first frequency, a base, having surfaces that are shaped to mechanically hold outer surfaces of a portable device, and having a magnetically resonant resonator therein, said resonator formed of an inductive coil portion in series with a capacitive portion, said resonator having an LC value which is resonant with said first frequency.

10 . A system as in claim 9 , wherein said resonator is integrated in a location which defines substantially a perimeter of the portable device.

11 . A system as in claim 10 , wherein said perimeter of the base is substantially disk shaped.

12 . A system as in claim 9 , wherein said inner surfaces are sized to hold a portable phone.

13 . A system as in claim 9 , further comprising electrical contacts which connect to the portable device.

14 . A system as in claim 13 , wherein said magnetically resonant resonator also includes a coupling loop, electrically separate from the coil and capacitor, wherein said coil and capacitor are not electrically connected to said contacts.

         15 . A system comprising:
a portable device, having a housing with an outer shape and surfaces, said portable device having a high-Q receiver resonator for receiving wirelessly transmitted power from another high-Q magnetic resonator, said power received to operate at least one circuit within the portable device, wherein said receiver includes a resonator formed of a coil portion that includes a ferrite.

16 . A system as in claim 15 , wherein said resonator is integrated in a location which defines at least a portion of a perimeter of the portable device.

17 . A system as in claim 15 , wherein said inner surfaces are sized to hold a portable phone.

18 . A system as in claim 15 , further comprising a magnetic generator, wherein said magnetic generator produces magnetic energy at a frequency that is resonant with a frequency resonant with said resonator.

19 . A system as in claim 5 , wherein said resonator includes a coil in series with a capacitor.

         20 . A system comprising:
a portable device, having a housing with an outer shape, said portable device having a high-Q resonator receiver for receiving wirelessly transmitted power from another high-Q magnetic resonator, said power received to operate at least one circuit within the portable device, wherein said receiver includes a resonator formed of a coil portion that includes ferrite that is shaped to fit within the outer shape of the portable device.
