Abstract

Embodiments of the present invention relate to a mounting assembly for mounting a reticle type sight on a long gun. The mounting assembly includes a mounting plate for securing the mounting assembly to a rearward portion of a long gun, and a mounting block coupled to a top portion of the mounting plate. The mounting plate has one or more connection elements to enable a reticle type sight to be coupled to the mounting block.

Claims

exact text as granted — not AI-modified
1 - 16 . (canceled)

         17 - 27 . (canceled)

         28 . A sight assembly comprising:
a mounting assembly adapted to attach to a long gun; and a reticle-type sight adapted to connect to the mounting assembly, wherein when the sight assembly is connected to a long gun the reticle-type sight is positioned no more than 5 inches from a comb portion of the stock of the long gun, thereby causing the reticle-type sight to be close to a user's eye and increase a shooter's field of view through the reticle-type sight.

29 . The sight assembly of claim 28 wherein the mounting assembly is adapted to attach to the long gun via contact with the stock.

30 . The sight assembly of claim 28 wherein the mounting assembly further comprises:
one or more spacers for adjusting the position of the reticle-type sight relative to the long gun whereby the position of the reticle-type sight may be adjusted so that iron sights on the long gun can be viewed through the reticle-type sight to a greater or lesser extent.

31 . The sight assembly of claim 28 wherein the mounting assembly further comprises:
one or more mounting blocks, wherein each mounting block positions the reticle-type sight at a different distance relative to the comb portion of the long gun, whereby the position of the reticle-type sight may be adjusted so that iron sights on the long gun can be viewed through the reticle-type sight.

32 . The sight assembly of claim 28 wherein when the sight assembly is connected to a long gun the reticle-type sight is positioned between a trigger mechanism of the long gun and the comb portion of the stock of the long gun.

33 . The sight assembly of claim 28 wherein the mounting assembly is adapted to attach to long gun via contact with the receiver.
