2 . The composition of claim 1 , wherein the at least one glutamine source is a soluble peptide containing L-glutamine.

4 . The composition of claim 3 , wherein the dipeptide is alanyl-glutamine.

22 . The method of claim 20 , wherein the glutamine source comprises a soluble peptide containing L-glutamine.
23 . The method of claim 22 , wherein the peptide is a dipeptide.
24 . The method of claim 23 , wherein the dipeptide is alanyl-glutamine.
25 . The method of claim 20 , wherein the glutamine source is delivered to the peritoneal cavity during surgery.
26 . The method of claim 20 , wherein the glutamine source is in a gel formulation.
27 . The method of claim 20 , wherein the glutamine source is placed on or is impregnated in a surgical material or an implantable medical device.
28 . The method of claim 20 , wherein the glutamine source is administered using a delivery device during a surgery.
29 . The medical device of claim 10 , wherein the composition is placed on or impregnated in the medical device.
