Abstract

A composition and method for the treatment of Alzheimer's disease and related amyloid plaque development and reduction of amyloid plaque, amyloidosis and amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, includes an effective amount of a compound selected from the group consisting of phytic acid, a phytate salt, an isomer or hydrolysate of phytic acid or a phytate salt, or a mixture of any combination thereof, being administered to a person in an amount from about 0.5 grams to about 18.75 grams per day.

A composition for the treatment of Alzheimer's disease related amyloid plaque development and reduction of amyloid plaque, amyloid plaque protein aggregation and amyloidosis comprising an effective amount of a compound selected from the group consisting of phytic acid, a phytate salt, an isomer or hydrolysate of phytic acid or a phytate salt, or a mixture of any combination thereof, being administered to a person in an amount from about 0.5 grams to about 18.75 grams per day. 
     
     
         2 . The composition as in  claim 1  wherein the compound is ingested orally. 
     
     
         3 . The composition as in  claim 1  wherein the compound is administered topically. 
     
     
         4 . The composition as in  claim 1  wherein the compound is administered transdermally. 
     
     
         5 . The composition as in  claim 1  wherein the compound is administered intradermally. 
     
     
         6 . A method for the treatment of Alzheimer's disease and related amyloid plaque development and reduction of amyloid plaque, amyloid plaque protein aggregation and amyloidosis comprising the steps of administering an effective amount of a compound selected from the group consisting of phytic acid, a phytate salt, an isomer or hydrolysate of phytic acid or a phytate salt, or a mixture of any combination thereof, being administered in an amount from about 0.5 grams to about 18.75 grams per day. 
     
     
         7 . The method as in  claim 6  wherein the compound is ingested orally. 
     
     
         8 . The method as in  claim 6  wherein the compound is administered topically. 
     
     
         9 . The method as in  claim 6  wherein the compound is administered transdermally. 
     
     
         10 . The method as in  claim 6  wherein the compound is administered intradermally.

A composition for the treatment of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis comprising an effective amount of a compound selected from the group consisting of phytic acid, a phytate salt, an isomer or hydrolysate of phytic acid or a phytate salt, or a mixture of any combination thereof, being administered to a person in an amount from about 0.5 grams to about 18.75 grams per day. 
     
     
         12 . The composition as in  claim 11  wherein the compound is ingested orally. 
     
     
         13 . The composition as in  claim 11  wherein the compound is administered topically. 
     
     
         14 . The composition as in  claim 11  wherein the compound is administered transdermally.

A method for the treatment of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis comprising the steps of administering an effective amount of a compound selected from the group consisting of phytic acid, a phytate salt, an isomer or hydrolysate of phytic acid or a phytate salt, or a mixture of any combination thereof, being administered in an amount from about 0.5 grams to about 18.75 grams per day. 
     
     
         17 . The method as in  claim 16  wherein the compound is ingested orally. 
     
     
         18 . The method as in  claim 16  wherein the compound is administered topically. 
     
     
         19 . The method as in  claim 16  wherein the compound is administered transdermally.
