Abstract

A method of providing programming to a portable wireless music player includes connecting to a music service provider from a remote client and defining a play list at the music service provider through user interaction at the remote client. The player connects to the music service provider over a wireless service network and downloads music to the player from the music service provider in accordance with the previously defined play list. The music or other programming is played at the player.

Claims

exact text as granted — not AI-modified
1 .- 20 . (canceled)

       21 . A system for programming a wireless device, the system comprising:
 a computing device configured to:
 receive selections from a user of the computing device to define a play list; and
 transmit the defined play list directed to a music service provider system;
   the music service provider system, remote from and in communication with the computing device, and configured to:
 receive the defined play list;
 transmit at least a portion of the defined play list to the wireless device via a wireless network;
 receive a selection of a song from the play list from the wireless device; and
 automatically transmit the selected song in a burst to the wireless device via the wireless network in response to receiving the selection; and
   the wireless device, different from the computing device and in communication with the music service provider system, and configured to:
 receive the at least a portion of the defined play list transmitted by the music service provider system;
 receive the selection of the song on the play list from a user of the wireless device via an interface on the wireless device;
 transmit the selection of the song from the play list directed to the music service provider system, the transmission comprising an indication that the wireless device is operable to receive the selected song; and
 receive and play the selected song transmitted from the music service provider system.

       22 . The system of claim 21 , wherein the computing device is remote from the wireless device.

       23 . The system of claim 21 , wherein each song on the defined play list is selected by the user at the computing device.

       24 . The system of claim 21 , wherein the wireless device is further configured to display the at least a portion of the defined play list.

       25 . The system of claim 21 , wherein the user of the wireless device comprises the user of the computing device.

       26 . The system of claim 21 wherein,
 the computing device is in communication with the music service provider system via the internet; and the music service provider system is in communication with the wireless device via a wireless local area network.

       27 . The system of claim 21 wherein the wireless network comprises a wireless local area network

       28 . A music service provider system for programming a wireless device, the system comprising:
 one or more receiver modules configured to:
 receive a user-defined play list transmitted from a computing device remote from the music service provider system for storage in a database; and
 receive a selection of a song from the user-defined play list from a wireless device different from the computing device and in communication with the music provider system via a wireless network, the selection comprising an indication that the wireless device is operable to receive the selected song;
   one or more transmitter modules, in communication with at least one of the one or more receiver modules, and configured to automatically download the selected song in a burst to the wireless device via the wireless network in response to receiving the selection; and a database configured to store the user-defined play list.

       29 . The music service provider system of claim 28 , wherein the one or more transmitter modules are further configured to transmit at least a portion of the defined play list to the wireless device via the wireless network.

       30 . The music service provider system of claim 28 , wherein the music service provider system comprises a plurality of networked devices.

       31 . The music service provider system of claim 28 , wherein songs on the user-defined play list are selected by the user at the computing device.

       32 . A method for programming a wireless device, the method comprising:
 receiving a user-defined listing of entries each corresponding to different audio data, the user-defined listing transmitted from a computing device; transmitting at least a portion of the received user-defined listing to a wireless device via a wireless network; receiving a selection of an entry from the user-defined listing from the wireless device via a wireless network; and automatically transmitting audio data corresponding to the entry in a burst to the wireless device via the wireless network in response to receiving the selection.

       33 . The method of  claim 32 , wherein,
 the user-defined listing of entries comprises a play list of songs identified based on selections of the user; and the selection of the entry comprises selection of a song.

       34 . The method of claim 33 , further comprising:
 playing a first portion of the selected song while a remaining portion of the selected song is downloading.

       35 . The method of  claim 32 , wherein,
 the user-defined listing of entries comprises a listing of internet radio channels identified based on selections of the user; and the selection of the entry comprises selection of an internet radio channel.

       36 . The method of claim 32 , wherein each entry of the user-defined listing of entries is individually selected by the user.

       37 . The method of claim 32 , wherein the user-defined listing of entries is based on selections by the user at the computing device.

       38 . The method of claim 32 , wherein the computing device and the wireless device comprise different devices.

       39 . The method of claim 32 , wherein the computing device and the wireless device are physically remote from each other.

       40 . A method for programming a wireless device, the method comprising:
 receiving, at a wireless device, a user-selected, predefined play list transmitted from a music service provider system via a wireless network; transmitting, from the wireless device, a selection of a song from the play list directed to the music service provider system, the selection comprising an indication that the wireless device is operable and ready to receive the selected song; receiving a first portion of the selected song downloaded from the music service provider system; and playing the first portion of the selected song while a remaining portion of the selected song is downloading.

       41 . The method of claim 40 , further comprising:
 displaying the predefined play list.

       42 . The method of claim 40 , further comprising:
 erasing, while a second song from the play list is played, at least some of the first portion to make memory available for an additional song to be downloaded.
