Claims

Abstract

An analyte monitor includes a sensor, a sensor control unit, and a display unit. The sensor has, for example, a substrate, a recessed channel formed in the substrate, and conductive material disposed in the recessed channel to form a working electrode. The sensor control unit typically has a housing adapted for placement on skin and is adapted to receive a portion of an electrochemical sensor. The sensor control unit also includes two or more conductive contacts disposed on the housing and configured for coupling to two or more contact pads on the sensor. A transmitter is disposed in the housing and coupled to the plurality of conductive contacts for transmitting data obtained using the sensor. The display unit has a receiver for receiving data transmitted by the transmitter of the sensor control unit and a display coupled to the receiver for displaying an indication of a level of an analyte. The analyte monitor may also be part of a drug delivery system to alter the level of the analyte based on the data obtained using the sensor.

         2 . A system for processing data signals obtained from a glucose sensor, the system comprising:
 a receiving module that receives a signal from a glucose sensor over a period of time; and   a processor module comprising programming that detects transient non-glucose related signal artifacts and replaces at least some of the signal artifacts with estimated glucose values.   
     
     
         3 . The system of  claim 2 , further comprising a glucose sensor. 
     
     
         4 . The system of  claim 2 , wherein the programming configured to replace at least some of the signal artifacts is configured to output the estimated glucose values in response to detection of transient non-glucose related signal artifacts, wherein the estimated glucose values comprise filtered, calibrated glucose values. 
     
     
         5 . The system of  claim 4 , wherein the processor module further comprises programming configured to output unfiltered, calibrated glucose values when transient non-glucose related signal artifacts are not detected. 
     
     
         6 . A system for processing data signals obtained from a glucose sensor, the system comprising:
 a receiving module that receives a signal from a glucose sensor over a period of time; and   a processor module comprising programming that detects transient non-glucose related signal artifacts and outputs estimated glucose values during transient non-glucose related signal artifacts.   
     
     
         7 . The system of  claim 6 , further comprising a glucose sensor. 
     
     
         8 . The system of  claim 6 , wherein the programming configured to output estimated glucose values during transient non-glucose related signal artifacts is configured to display data representative of the estimated glucose values, including at least one of a numeric representation of the estimated glucose values, an indication of directional trend of the estimated glucose values, and a graphical representation of the estimated glucose values in response to detection of transient non-glucose related signal artifacts, wherein the estimated glucose values comprise filtered, calibrated glucose values. 
     
     
         9 . The system of  claim 8 , wherein the processor module further comprises programming configured to output unfiltered, calibrated glucose values when transient non-glucose related signal artifacts are not detected. 
     
     
         10 . A system for processing data signals obtained from a glucose sensor, the system comprising:
 a receiving module that receives a signal from a glucose sensor over a period of time; and   a processor module comprising programming that detects transient non-glucose related signal artifacts and selectively displays unfiltered glucose values when signal artifacts are not detected and filtered glucose values when signal artifacts are detected.   
     
     
         11 . The system of  claim 10 , further comprising a glucose sensor. 
     
     
         12 . The system of  claim 10 , wherein the unfiltered glucose values are calibrated unfiltered glucose values. 
     
     
         13 . The system of  claim 10 , wherein the filtered glucose values are calibrated filtered glucose values. 
     
     
         14 . The system of  claim 10 , wherein the programming that displays is configured to display at least one of a numeric representation of the glucose values, an indication of directional trend of the glucose values, and a graphical representation of the glucose values.
