Method and mobile communication appliance for selecting a transmission path
Abstract
There is described a method for selecting a transmission path for a communication connection of a mobile communication device, wherein at least two transmission paths can be selected by the mobile communication device. In a first step, an option is determined via the position of the communication device, in a second step, the option is accessed using the determined option on the data bank for the transmission path, in a third step, a preferred transmission path is determined using at least one entry of the data bank, and in a fourth step, the preferred transmission path is selected and used for the communication connection.

11 . A method of selecting a transmission path for a communication link of a mobile communication appliance, wherein the mobile communication appliance selects a transmission path out of at least two transmission paths, comprising:
ascertaining a statement about a location of the communication appliance; accessing a database for transmission paths, wherein the data base has statistical statements about previous uses of at least one of the transmission paths, wherein based on the stored statistical statements and based on the ascertained statement a preferred transmission path is determined, wherein at least one correlation between the statement about the location used during the previous use and the statement, picked up during the previous use, about the quality of the transmission path used is stored and used for a determination of a preferred transmission path; determining the preferred transmission path based on at least one entry in the database; selecting the preferred transmission path; and using the selected transmission path for a communication link.
12 . The method as claimed in patent claim 11 , wherein the database is stored in the communication appliance.
13 . The method as claimed in claim 11 , wherein the database is available centrally in a communication network and is usable by a plurality of communication appliances.
14 . The method as claimed in claim 12 , wherein the database is available centrally in a communication network and is usable by a plurality of communication appliances.

The method as claimed in claim 11 , wherein a fresh entry in the database or a correction to an existing entry in the database is performed after a use of the selected transmission path, wherein the entry relates to a quality registered for the transmission path used and to the statement about the location of the mobile communication appliance.

The method as claimed in claim 12 , wherein a fresh entry in the database or a correction to an existing entry in the database is performed after a use of the selected transmission path, wherein the entry relates to a quality registered for the transmission path used and to the statement about the location of the mobile communication appliance.
17 . The method as claimed in claim 15 , wherein the fresh entry or the corrected entry is used to optimize a radio network with the transmission path associated with this entry.
18 . The method as claimed in claim 16 , wherein the fresh entry or the corrected entry is used to optimize a radio network with the transmission path associated with this entry.
19 . The method as claimed in claim 11 , wherein a time statement about the time is used to select the transmission path, wherein the database provides statistical statements about the quality of at least one transmission path for a particular time.
20 . The method as claimed in claim 11 , wherein a time statement about the time of day is used to select the transmission path, wherein the database provides statistical statements about the quality of at least one transmission path for a particular time of day.
21 . The method as claimed in claim 11 , wherein a time statement about a day-of-week statement is used to select the transmission path, wherein the database provides statistical statements about the quality of at least one transmission path for a particular day of a week.
22 . The method as claimed in claim 19 , wherein a time statement about a time of day is used to select the transmission path, wherein the database provides statistical statements about the quality of at least one transmission path for the particular time of day.
23 . The method as claimed in claim 22 , wherein a time statement about a day-of-week statement is used to select the transmission path, wherein the database provides statistical statements about the quality of at least one transmission path for a particular day of the week.
24 . The method as claimed in claim 11 , wherein the statement about the location of the communication appliance is ascertained using a satellite-assisted position-finding system.
25 . The method as claimed in claim 11 , wherein the statement about the location of the communication appliance is ascertained using a method for position-finding using received terrestrial radio base stations.
26 . The method as claimed claim 11 , wherein the network for the transmission path is selected from the group consisting of a WLAN radio network, a GSM mobile radio network a UMTS voice data radio network and a combination thereof.
27 . The method as claimed in claim 11 , wherein a minimum requirement for the quality of a transmission path to be selected is defined for a planned communication link, wherein based on database entries a transmission path is selected for which the defined quality requirements are met.
28 . A communication appliance for a wireless access of a plurality of transmission paths, wherein one of the plurality of transmission paths is selectable for a communication link, comprising:
a position-finding device for ascertaining a statement about a geographical position of the communication appliance, wherein the communication appliance has access to a database, wherein the database has at least one entry with a statistical statement, based on empirical values from past communication links, about a quality which can be expected for one of the transmission paths with at least one associated statement about a location; and a selection device for one of the plurality of transmission paths, wherein based on the statement about the location and the at least one database entry a transmission path corresponding to a minimum quality requirement is selected and used.Join the waitlist — get patent alerts
