Impact diesel particulate filter
Abstract
An emission reduction device which may be removably affixed to a diesel engine's exhaust system. The device comprises an outer casing which may be divided into a lower portion and an upper portion, the lower portion of which is removably attachable to the exhaust system of a diesel engine; a carcass for holding a bobbin wherein the carcass is attached to the lower portion of the outer casing at the point where the exhaust enters the outer casing and the carcass has a beveled opening in a diagonal line in its proximal part and a bobbin positioned in its distal part; one or more fibrous blanket cylinders; and a guide for arranging and securing the one or more fibrous blanket cylinders within the outer casing. The fibrous blanket cylinders may be wrapped in a wire mesh. In an alternative embodiment, a second fibrous blanket formed into a cone with the larger diameter of the cone positioned proximally may be removably inserted in the carcass.
Claims
exact text as granted — not AI-modified1 . A device for reducing emissions comprising:
an outer casing with an exhaust inlet and an exhaust outlet; a carcass affixed to the exhaust inlet, wherein said carcass has an end located distally from said exhaust inlet and said distal end is open to allow the escape of exhaust gas during operation and wherein said carcass has an end located proximally to said exhaust inlet and a portion of said proximal end is open to allow the escape of exhaust gas during operation; and one or more fibrous blanket cylinders positioned inside said outer casing.
2 . The device of claim 1 further including a diaphragm wherein said diaphragm is formed into a cone with the larger opening of said cone positioned proximally to said exhaust inlet and said diaphragm is positioned inside said carcass.
3 . The device of claim 1 wherein said carcass is made of one or more of aluminum, steel, stainless steel or aluminized steel.
4 . The device of claim 1 wherein said outer casing is removably affixed to an exhaust outlet of a diesel engine.
5 . The device of claim 1 wherein said fibrous blanket is made of one or more of an aramid, a meta-aramid, a polyamide, a polyphenylene sulfide, a p-phenylene-1,3,4-oxadiazole, polytetrafluoroethylene, and basalt.
6 . The device of claim 1 wherein a metal mesh is positioned around the perimeter of said fibrous blanket cylinder.
7 . A method for reducing emissions comprising:
affixing the proximal end of an outer casing to the exhaust outlet of a diesel engine wherein said outer casing has an exhaust inlet and an exhaust outlet; affixing a carcass to said exhaust inlet, wherein said carcass has an end located distally from said exhaust inlet and said distal end is open to allow the escape of exhaust gas during operation and wherein said carcass has an end located proximally to said exhaust inlet and a portion of said proximal end is open to allow the escape of exhaust gas during operation; and positioning one or more fibrous blanket cylinders inside said outer casing.
8 . The method of claim 7 further including a diaphragm wherein said diaphragm is formed into a cone with the larger opening of said cone positioned proximally and said diaphragm is positioned inside said carcass.
9 . The method of claim 7 wherein said carcass is made of one or more of aluminum, steel, stainless steel or aluminized steel.
10 . The method of claim 7 wherein said outer casing is removably affixed to an exhaust outlet of a diesel engine.
11 . The method of claim 7 wherein said fibrous blanket is made of one or more of an aramid, a meta-aramid, a polyamide, a polyphenylene sulfide, a p-phenylene-1,3,4-oxadiazole, polytetrafluoroethylene, and basalt.
12 . The method of claim 7 wherein a metal mesh is positioned around the perimeter of said fibrous blanket cylinder.
13 . A device for reducing emissions comprising:
An outer casing and an inner casing; means for affixing the proximal end of said outer casing to the exhaust outlet of a diesel engine wherein said outer casing has an exhaust inlet and an exhaust outlet; a carcass, wherein said carcass has an end located distally from said exhaust inlet and said distal end is open to allow the escape of exhaust gas during operation and wherein said carcass has an end located proximally to said exhaust inlet and a portion of said proximal end is open to allow the escape of exhaust gas during operation; means for affixing said carcass to said exhaust inlet; a bobbin located in said carcass distally from said exhaust inlet; and means for positioning one or more fibrous blanket cylinders inside said outer casing.
14 . The device of claim 13 further including means for positioning inside said carcass a fibrous blanket formed into a cylinder, said fibrous blanket being affixed to a metal mesh.Join the waitlist — get patent alerts
