Burner nozzle for pulverized coal

Abstract

A coal nozzle for a burner on a pulverized coal fired furnace which includes an elongated tubular nozzle having an inlet for receiving a flowing stream of coal/air mixture and an outlet for discharging the flowing stream into a combustion zone of a furnace for combustion, and an inlet elbow connected to the inlet of the tubular nozzle. The interior outer surfaces of the elbow include a staircase surface configuration for engaging the incoming flowing stream whereby coal ropes in the stream are broken up for thereby improving flow distribution of the stream.

1 . A coal nozzle for a burner on a pulverized coal fired furnace comprising:
 an elongated tubular nozzle having an inlet for receiving a flowing stream of coal/air mixture and an outlet for discharging the flowing stream into a combustion zone of a furnace for combustion; and   an inlet elbow connected to said inlet;   interior outer surfaces of said elbow including a staircase surface configuration for engaging said incoming flowing stream whereby coal ropes in said stream are broken up for thereby improving flow distribution of said stream.   
   
   
       2 . The coal nozzle of  claim 1 , including a plurality of annularly arranged and axially aligned fins in said tubular nozzle downstream of said elbow for distribution enhancement of said flowing stream. 
   
   
       3 . The coal nozzle of  claim 1 , wherein said elbow is a flatback elbow having a removable flatback cover plate with said staircase surface configuration applied to an interior surface thereof. 
   
   
       4 . The coal nozzle of  claim 1 , wherein said elbow is a lobsterback elbow having a removable back cover plate with a segmented flat surface interior with said staircase surface configuration applied as staircase segments to said respective interior flat segments. 
   
   
       5 . The coal nozzle of  claim 1 , wherein said staircase surface configuration has faces thereof set at even intervals.
