Infant sleeping cap

Abstract

An infant sleeping cap adapted for multi-functional use is disclosed, the infant sleeping cap includes a veil having a top surface, a bottom surface, and an elongate portion extending therebetween. The veil is attached to a stretchable band, and is adapted to (i) obstruct the peripheral and frontal vision of an infant to promote sleeping; (ii) block the sun from direct exposure to the infants eyes; and (iii) block ultraviolet and other harmful radiation from the rear-portion of the infant's neck. The infant sleeping cap can be positioned for wear in a variety of orientations.

1 . An article for wear by an infant, comprising:
 a veil for obstructing visible and ultraviolet light, and   a stretchable band having a substantially annular shape and a circumference;   said veil comprising a first edge, an elongate portion extending from said first edge, and a second edge;   said veil further comprising an upwardly curved bridge substantially centered along said second edge;   wherein said first edge of said veil is attached to said stretchable band along about one half of said circumference of said stretchable band.   
   
   
       2 . The article of  claim 1 , wherein said stretchable band is further attached to a cap. 
   
   
       3 . The article of  claim 1 , said veil further comprising a structural rim, said structural rim attached to said veil along said second edge. 
   
   
       4 . The article of  claim 3 , wherein said structural rim comprises additional mass. 
   
   
       5 . The article of  claim 3 , wherein said structural rim comprises a pliable edge. 
   
   
       6 . The article of  claim 5 , wherein said veil further comprises a horizontal crease, said horizontal crease adapted to maintain the veil in a folded position. 
   
   
       7 . The article of  claim 1 , wherein said veil is attached to said stretchable band at a seam. 
   
   
       8 . The article of  claim 7 , wherein said seam fixedly connects said veil and said cap to said stretchable band. 
   
   
       9 . The article of  claim 2 , wherein said cap is fabricated from a stretchable material for adjustable fitting to the head of said infant. 
   
   
       10 . The article of  claim 1 , wherein said veil comprises a first flexible sheet, and a second flexible sheet disposed thereon. 
   
   
       11 . The article of  claim 10 , wherein said first flexible sheet and said second flexible sheet are independently fabricated from a like material. 
   
   
       12 . The article of  claim 1 , wherein said veil comprises an opaque material. 
   
   
       13 . The article of  claim 2 , wherein said upwardly curved bridge is adapted to promote a bisecting fold for contoured fit of the veil along one of: an infant's face, or an infant's rear-neck. 
   
   
       14 . The article of  claim 13 , wherein said veil is adapted to shade a rear neck portion of said infant from ultraviolet light. 
   
   
       15 . The article of  claim 13 , wherein said veil is adapted to obstruct the peripheral and frontal vision of said infant. 
   
   
       16 . The article of  claim 1 , wherein the veil is adapted to substantially float above the face of a user. 
   
   
       17 . The article of  claim 1 , wherein said band has a circumference between about 5 inches and about 25 inches. 
   
   
       18 . An infant sleeping cap, comprising:
 a veil for obstructing light,   a cap portion for covering the head of an infant, and   a stretchable band having a circumference,   said cap portion attached to said stretchable band at a seam, and   said veil attached to said stretchable band along about half of said circumference,   wherein said veil is adapted to substantially float above the face of said infant.
