Compositions of an anticonvulsant and mirtazapine to prevent weight gain

Abstract

Disclosed are pharmaceutical compositions comprising mirtazapine and an anticonvulsant drug. Also disclosed are methods of preventing weight gain associated with the administration of mirtazapine comprising identifying a patient to whom mirtazapine is to be administered and administering to said patient a pharmaceutical composition comprising mirtazapine and an anticonvulsant drug. Further disclosed are methods of increasing the efficacy of mirtazapine comprising identifying a patient to whom mirtazapine is to be administered and administering to said patient a pharmaceutical composition comprising mirtazapine and an anticonvulsant drug.

         9 . A method of preventing weight gain associated with the administration of mirtazapine comprising identifying a patient to whom mirtazapine is to be administered and administering to said patient a pharmaceutical composition comprising mirtazapine and an anticonvulsant drug. 
     
     
         10 . The method of  claim 9 , wherein said anticonvulsant drug is selected from the group consisting of carbamazepine, valproate, valproic acid, divalproex, felbamate, levetiracetam, carbamazepine, topiramate, oxcarbazepine, and zonisamide. 
     
     
         11 . The method of  claim 9 , wherein said anticonvulsant drug zonisamide. 
     
     
         12 . The method of  claim 11 , wherein about 100 mg of zonisamide is administered to said patient. 
     
     
         13 . The method of  claim 11 , wherein about 200 mg of zonisamide is administered to said patient.
