Wind and sand barrier

Abstract

A wind and sand barrier for shielding beach-goers and the like. The barrier comprises an elongated panel of flexible material that is supported a plurality of stakes extending through sleeves on the panel and then into the ground. Each stake is topped by an inverted dish-shaped handle to facilitate pushing the stakes into the ground with the user's hand. A plurality of slits are cut into the panel to define flaps for relieving wind pressure against the panel.

1 . A wind and sand barrier comprising:
 an elongated panel of flexible material defined by a top edge, a bottom edge, and first and second side edges;   first and second substantially parallel sleeves on said panel positioned respectively at said first and second side edges and oriented substantially parallel thereto;   a plurality of third sleeves positioned at spaced intervals along said panel between said first and second side edges and oriented substantially parallel to said first and second sleeves;   a plurality of vents in said panel for relieving wind pressure thereon; and   a plurality of support stakes receivable in said first, second, and third sleeves, each of said support stakes comprising an elongated shaft having a first end terminating in a substantially pointed shape and a second end having an enlarged cap for facilitating pushing said support stake into the ground with the user's hand.   
   
   
       2 . The wind and sand barrier of  claim 1  wherein each of said sleeves is formed in said panel. 
   
   
       3 . The wind and sand barrier of  claim 1  wherein each of said sleeves is attached to said panel. 
   
   
       4 . The wind and sand barrier of  claim 1  wherein said panel comprises a plurality of sections having section side edges and being attached to one another at said section side edges, and wherein said sleeves are formed by overlaying and attaching adjacent of said section side edges to one another. 
   
   
       5 . The wind and sand barrier of  claim 1  wherein each of said first, second and third sleeves extend from said top edge to said bottom edge. 
   
   
       6 . The wind and sand barrier of  claim 1  wherein said third sleeves are spaced at equal intervals between said first and second side edges. 
   
   
       7 . The wind and sand barrier of  claim 1  wherein each of said said enlarged caps on said stakes comprises a circular button having an arcuate upper surface. 
   
   
       8 . The wind and sand barrier of  claim 1  wherein the length of said panel is about ten feet, the height of said panel is about sixteen inches, the length of each of said stakes is about twenty-four inches, and the interval between said first, second and third sleeves is about thirty inches. 
   
   
       9 . The wind and sand barrier of  claim 1  wherein each of said vents comprises a slit in said panel defining a flap, and wherein said vents are located closer to said top edge than said bottom edge of said panel. 
   
   
       10 . The wind and sand barrier of  claim 1  wherein said panel further comprises an interior surface and an exterior surface, and wherein a decorative design is placed upon at least one of said surfaces. 
   
   
       11 . A wind and sand barrier comprising:
 an elongated panel of flexible material defined by a top edge, a bottom edge, and first and second side edges;   first and second substantially parallel sleeves on said panel positioned respectively at said first and second side edges and oriented substantially parallel thereto;   a plurality of third sleeves positioned at equally spaced intervals along said panel between said first and second side edges and oriented substantially parallel to said first and second sleeves;   a plurality of vents in said panel for relieving wind pressure thereon, each of said vents comprising a slit in said panel defining a flap, and wherein said vents are located closer to said top edge than said bottom edge of said panel.   a plurality of support stakes receivable in said first, second, and third sleeves, each of said support stakes comprising an elongated shaft having a first end terminating in a substantially pointed shape and a second end having an enlarged circular cap comprising an arcuate upper surface for facilitating pushing said support stake into the ground with the user's hand.   
   
   
       12 . The wind and sand barrier of  claim 11  wherein each of said first, second and third sleeves extend from said top edge to said bottom edge. 
   
   
       13 . The wind and sand barrier of  claim 11  wherein the length of said panel is about ten feet, the height of said panel is about sixteen inches, and the length of each of said stakes is about twenty-four inches. 
   
   
       14 . The wind and sand barrier of  claim 11  wherein each of said vents comprises an arcuate slit. 
   
   
       15 . The wind and sand barrier of  claim 11  wherein said panel further comprises an interior surface and an exterior surface, and wherein a decorative design is placed upon at least one of said surfaces.
