Templated carbon monolithic tubes with shaped micro-channels and method for making the same

Abstract

Disclosed is a method for forming an article with template shaped channels by (a) mixing a precursor with a fibrous template, (b) forming the mixture into a pre-determined shape, (c) curing the mixture to form a precursor composite, (d) carbonizing the precursor composite, and (e) decomposing the fibrous template to yield a shaped carbon article with template shaped channels.

       13 . An article for smoking comprising:
 a plug;   a carbon article with template-shaped channels adjacent to the plug; and   a tobacco rod.   
   
   
       14 . The article of  claim 13  wherein the template shaped channels are trilobal shaped, quadri-lobal shaped, V-shaped, I-shaped, stylized I-shaped, C-shaped, round, tubular or irregular shaped. 
   
   
       15 . A carbon article formed according to the method of claim  1 . 
   
   
       16 . A carbon article with template-shaped channels. 
   
   
       17 . The carbon article of  claim 16  wherein the template-shaped channels are trilobal shaped, quadri-lobal shaped, V-shaped, I-shaped, stylized I-shaped, C-shaped, round, tubular or irregular shaped. 
   
   
       18 . The carbon article of  claim 16 , wherein the carbon article is a monolithic tube.
