Abstract

A method for multiplexing reference signal (RS) transmissions from user equipments (UEs), with the RS having a bandwidth larger than the data signal bandwidth (distributed RS) is provided. A transmission time interval (TTI) comprises of one or more sub-frames and each sub-frame comprises of at least two RS transmission periods and a plurality of data signal transmission periods. A distributed RS is transmitted during at least one of the at least two RS transmission periods in at least one of the sub-frames comprising the TTI. During the remaining RS transmission periods, for a UE having a data signal transmission, the RS bandwidth is substantially the same as the data signal bandwidth (localized RS). The total system bandwidth is divided into contiguous, non-overlapping sub-bandwidths, called reference signal multiplexing blocks (RSMBs). Transmission of distributed RS occurs within an RSMB and does not cross over different RSMBs. The size and number of RSMBs can be re-configurable in time and a re-configuration period is much larger than the TTI duration.

Claims

1 - 45 . (canceled)

46 . A method for frequency domain scheduling of a reference signal in a plurality of resource blocks into a scheduling period from a plurality of scheduling periods, said method comprising:
creating information regarding, for each particular resource block and each scheduling period, which User Equipments UEs transmit reference signals in the particular resource block and which a particular reference signal is transmitted in the particular resource block; and communicating said information to UEs via a downlink control signaling.

47 . The method of claim 46 , wherein said particular reference signal corresponds to at least a reference signal sequence for code division multiplexing.

48 . The method of claim 46 , wherein said particular reference signal corresponds to at least the cyclic shift of a pre-determined reference signal sequence for code division multiplexing.

49 . The method of claim 46 , wherein said particular reference signal corresponds to at least the comb in the frequency spectrum for frequency division multiplexing.

50 . The method of claim 46 , wherein said particular reference signal corresponds to at least the reference signal sequence, or the cyclic shift of a pre-determined reference signal sequence, or the comb in the frequency spectrum for hybrid of code division multiplexing and frequency division multiplexing.

51 . A method of mapping a reference signal to a corresponding data signal at a user equipment, said user equipment using a resource map which maps reference signal resource blocks to data signal resource blocks, said method comprising:
creating information for each particular resource block regarding which scheduled User Equipments UE(s) will use a particular data signal resource block; communicating said information to UEs via a downlink control signaling, and a scheduled UE mapping a reference signal resource block to a data signal resource block using said resource map.
