Method of counting and validating currency documents

Abstract

A method of counting and validating the value of a currency document includes the steps of sensing at least one coded tag printed on the currency document; determining a scanning time at which the sensing device sensed the coded tag; determining from the sensed coded tag and determined scanning time a unique identity of the currency document; comparing the unique identity of the currency document with a list of suspect identities to determine a validity of the currency document; and determining a value for the currency document from the unique identity.

1 . A method of counting and validating the value of a currency document, the currency document having printed thereon a repetition of identical coded tags, the method comprising the steps of:
 sensing at least one coded tag from the repetition of coded tags printed on the currency document;   determining a scanning time at which the sensing device sensed the coded tag;   determining from the sensed coded tag and determined scanning time a unique identity of the currency document;   comparing the unique identity of the currency document with a list of suspect identities to determine a validity of the currency document; and   determining a value for the currency document from the unique identity and determined validity.   
     
     
         2 . A method according to  claim 1 , wherein the step of determining the value of the currency document values only currency document that are determined to be valid. 
     
     
         3 . A method according to  claim 1 , further comprising a step of communicating to a remote database the unique identity of the currency document to compare the unique identity of the currency document with the list of suspect identities. 
     
     
         4 . A method according to  claim 1 , further comprising a step of communicating with a remote database to download and store locally the list of suspect identities. 
     
     
         5 . A method according to  claim 1 , further comprising a step of communicating with a remote database the unique identity of the currency document upon determination that the unique identity of the currency document matches an identity in the list of suspect identities.
