Percutaneous Gastroplasty

Abstract

Disclosed are methods and apparatus for implantation into the walls of an organ such as the stomach. Deformable or inflatable anchors with a connector between are used to pull the walls of the organ together, or to implant devices in the wall of the organ. Also disclosed are surgical instruments useful in practicing the disclosed methods.

1 . A device to induce satiety in a patient comprising:
 An inflatable balloon with at least two surfaces, the first surface adapted in shape to at least partially surround the stomach and induce satiety in a patient when the balloon is in its inflated state;   At least one integral anchor, attached directly to the inflatable balloon on a second surface, said anchor adapted to connect to or within the abdominal wall deep to the subcutaneous layer to hold the first surface of the inflatable balloon against the stomach when the inflatable balloon is inflated to induce satiety in a patient.
