Abstract

A blood sugar-modulating polypeptide, a pharmaceutical composition comprising the polypeptide, and a method for modulating blood sugar in a mammal comprising the administration of the polypeptide are provided. The polypeptide has a following amino acid sequence or a homologous amino acid sequence derived from the substitution, deletion, and/or addition of one or more amino acids therein: RVRVWVTERGIVARPPTIG.

A polypeptide for modulating blood sugar, comprising a following amino acid sequence or a homologous amino acid sequence derived from the substitution, deletion, and/or addition of one or more amino acids therein:

         2 . The polypeptide as claimed in  claim 1 , comprising one or more amino acid sequences selected from a group consisting of SEQ ID NO: 1, SEQ ID NO: 2, SEQ ID NO: 3, SEQ ID NO: 4, SEQ ID NO: 5, SEQ ID NO: 6, SEQ ID NO: 7, SEQ ID NO: 8, SEQ ID NO: 9, SEQ ID NO: 10, SEQ ID NO: 11, SEQ ID NO: 12, and a homologous amino acid sequence derived from the substitution, deletion, and/or addition of one or more amino acids therein.

The polypeptide as claimed in  claim 1 , comprising one or more amino acid sequences selected from a group consisting of SEQ ID NO: 4, SEQ ID NO: 7, SEQ ID NO: 9, SEQ ID NO: 11, SEQ ID NO: 12, and a homologous amino acid sequence derived from the substitution, deletion, and/or addition of one or more amino acids therein.

The polypeptide as claimed in  claim 1 , consisting of an amino acid sequence selected from a group consisting of SEQ ID NO: 4, SEQ ID NO: 7, SEQ ID NO: 9, SEQ ID NO: 11, SEQ ID NO: 12, and a homologous amino acid sequence derived from the substitution, deletion, and/or addition of one or more amino acids therein. 
     
     
         5 . The polypeptide as claimed in  claim 1 , which is obtained by a manner selected from a group consisting of plant extraction, artificial synthesis, gene recombination technique, and combinations thereof. 
     
     
         6 . The polypeptide as claimed in  claim 5 , which is obtained by the extraction of a plant selected from a group consisting of bitter melon, kakorot, cucumber, pumpkin, gourd, watermelon, snake gourd seed, snake gourd root, and combinations thereof. 
     
     
         7 . The polypeptide as claimed in  claim 5 , which is obtained by the extraction of a plant selected from a group consisting of  Zinnia elegans, Medicago truncatula , grape, grapefruit,  Sambucus nigra, Arabidopsis thaliana , rice, and combinations thereof. 
     
     
         8 . The polypeptide as claimed in  claim 5 , wherein the gene recombination technique is carried out by the gene expression in a host cell, and the host cell is  Escherichia coli  or yeast. 
     
     
         9 . An isolated polynucleotide, encoding the polypeptide for modulating blood sugar as claimed in  claim 1 . 
     
     
         10 . A pharmaceutical composition for modulating blood sugar, comprising the polypeptide as claimed in  claim 1  and a pharmaceutically acceptable carrier. 
     
     
         11 . The pharmaceutical composition as claimed in  claim 10 , having a dosage form selected from a group consisting of a tablet, a capsule, a granule, a powder, a fluid extract, a solution, a syrup, a suspension, an emulsion, a tincture, an injection, an intravenous injection, a powder injection, a suspension injection, a powder-suspension injection, and combinations thereof. 
     
     
         12 . A method for modulating blood sugar in a mammal comprising the administration of the polypeptide as claimed in  claim 1 . 
     
     
         13 . The method as claimed in  claim 12  for treating diabetes.
