Lprf device wake up using wireless tag

Abstract

A wireless transceiver includes: (a) a low power radio frequency (LPRF) communications component capable of powering down to conserve energy and capable of powering up in response to an electronic signal, the LPRF communications component including a transmitter and a first receiver; and (b) a second receiver that is configured to screen a radio frequency broadcast and provide, on the basis of specific data identified therein, the electronic signal to the LPRF communications component in order to power up the LPRF communications component. The second receiver is adapted to draw less current than the LPRF communications component while awaiting receipt of and listening for a radio frequency broadcast.

 a piece of luggage;   a memory device, wherein the memory device is located in, on, or at, the piece of luggage, wherein the memory device stores information regarding a description of a good, product, or item, being shipped via or which is contained in the piece of luggage, and origination information, sender information, shipper information, destination information, receiver information, handling instruction information, delivery instruction information, invoice information, packing slip information, delivery time information, or payment instruction information, regarding the piece of luggage;   a global positioning device, wherein the global positioning device is located in, on, or at, the piece of luggage, and further wherein the global positioning device determines a position or location of the piece of luggage;   a processing device, wherein the processing device processes information regarding the piece of luggage in response to an occurrence of an event or in response to a request for information regarding the piece of luggage, wherein the processing device generates a message containing information regarding the position or location of the piece of luggage and information regarding the occurrence of an event, a status of a shipment or a transportation of or involving the piece of luggage, a shipment or a transportation temperature, or an impact or force on the piece of luggage; and   a transmitter, wherein the transmitter is located in, on, or at, the piece of luggage, wherein the transmitter transmits the message to a communication device associated with an individual or entity, a sender of the piece of luggage, a receiver of the piece of luggage, a carrier of the piece of luggage, or an individual or entity authorized to receive information regarding the piece of luggage or information regarding a shipment or a transportation of or involving the piece of luggage.

 a shipment conveyance device;   a gateway located proximate the shipment conveyance device, the gateway including a memory, a global positioning system (GPS) receiver, a processor, and a transmitter,   wherein the memory device stores information regarding a description of an item, being shipped or transported via or which is contained in or on the shipment conveyance device, and origination information, or destination information, regarding the shipment conveyance device;   wherein the global positioning device determines a position of the shipment conveyance device;   wherein the processing device processes information regarding the shipment conveyance device in response to an occurrence of an event or in response to a request for information regarding the shipment conveyance device, wherein the processing device generates a message containing information regarding the position of the shipment conveyance device and information regarding the occurrence of an event or a status of the shipment conveyance device; and   wherein the transmitter transmits the message to a communications device associated with an individual or entity.   
     
     
         78 . The apparatus of  claim 77 , wherein the message transmitted by the transmitter is a class-based message. 
     
     
         79 . The apparatus of  claim 77 , wherein the processing device generates a message containing information regarding the shipment conveyance device in response to a class-based message containing a request for information regarding shipment conveyance device. 
     
     
         80 . An apparatus, comprising:
 a shipping container, wherein the shipment conveyance device is associated with a shipment, and further wherein the shipment conveyance device is at least one of a shipping container and a pallet;   a memory device, wherein the memory device is located proximate the shipment conveyance device, wherein information regarding the shipment is stored in the memory device, and further wherein the information regarding the shipment includes a description of a good, product, or item, being shipped via the shipment conveyance device, and at least one of origination information, sender information, shipper information, and destination information regarding the shipment;   a global positioning device, wherein the global positioning device is located proximate the shipment conveyance device, and further wherein the global positioning device determines a position of the shipment conveyance device;   a processing device, wherein the processing device processes information regarding the shipment and information regarding the shipment conveyance device in response to an occurrence of an event or in response to a request for information regarding the shipment or the shipment conveyance device, wherein the processing device generates a message containing information regarding the position of the shipment conveyance device and information regarding the occurrence of an event or a status of the shipment; and   a transmitter, wherein the transmitter is located proximate the shipment conveyance device, and wherein the transmitter transmits the message to an asset-tracking application at a server remotely located relative to the shipment conveyance device.
