Abstract

Methods and compositions for treating psychiatric diseases and disorders are disclosed. The methods provided generally involve the administration of an amylin or an amylin agonist to a subject in order to treat psychiatric diseases and disorders, and conditions associated with psychiatric diseases and disorders.

Claims

exact text as granted — not AI-modified
. A method for treating a mood disorder in a human in need thereof comprising administering to the human a therapeutically effective amount of an amylin agonist analog comprising the amino acid sequence of SEQ ID NO:159 to treat the mood disorder.

. The method of claim 1 , wherein the mood disorder is bipolar disorder.

. The method of claim 1 , wherein the mood disorder is major depressive disorder, dysthymic disorder, bipolar I disorder, bipolar II disorder, or cyclothymic disorder.

. A method for treating a mood disorder, an anxiety disorder, or schizophrenia in a subject in need thereof comprising administering to the subject a therapeutically effective amount of an amylin agonist analog comprising an amino acid sequence having at least 90% sequence identity to SEQ ID NO:159 to treat the mood disorder, the anxiety disorder, or schizophrenia.

. The method of claim 4 , wherein the amylin agonist analog comprises the amino acid sequence of SEQ ID NO: 156, 157, 158, 159, 160, 162, 163, 164, 170, 171, 180, 181, 183, 184, 185, 186, 187, 189, 190, 192, 194, 195, 196, 197, 198, 199, 200, 201, 206, 207, 208, 209, 210, 211, 212, 213, 214, 215, 216, 217, 218, 219, 222, 223, 227, 228, 234, 235, 241, 246, 249, or 253.

. The method of claim 4 , wherein the amylin agonist analog comprises an amino acid sequence having at least 92% sequence identity to SEQ ID NO:159.

. The method of claim 6 , wherein the amylin agonist analog comprises the amino acid sequence of SEQ ID NO: 156, 157, 158, 159, 160, 162, 163, 164, 170, 180, 181, 184, 185, 187, 190, 194, 195, 196, 197, 201, 206, 207, 208, 209, 211, 212, 213, 214, 215, 217, 218, 234, 235, 246, or 253.

. The method of claim 4 , wherein the amylin agonist analog comprises an amino acid sequence having at least 95% sequence identity to SEQ ID NO:159.

. The method of claim 8 , wherein the amylin agonist analog comprises the amino acid sequence of SEQ ID NO: 159, 160, 180, or 253.

. The method of claim 4 , wherein the amylin agonist analog comprises the amino acid sequence of SEQ ID NO:159.

. The method of claim 4 , wherein the method is for treating the mood disorder.

. The method of claim 11 , wherein the mood disorder is depression or bipolar disorder.

. The method of claim 11 , wherein the mood disorder is major depressive disorder, dysthymic disorder, bipolar I disorder, bipolar II disorder, or cyclothymic disorder.

. The method of claim 4 , wherein the method is for treating the anxiety disorder.

. The method of claim 14 , wherein the anxiety disorder is obsessive-compulsive disorder, panic disorder, a phobia, post-traumatic stress disorder, acute stress disorder, or generalized anxiety disorder.

. The method of claim 4 , wherein the method is for treating schizophrenia.

. The method of claim 16 , wherein the schizophrenia is paranoid schizophrenia, disorganized schizophrenia, catatonic schizophrenia, residual schizophrenia, a schizoaffective disorder, or undifferentiated schizophrenia.

. The method of claim 4 , further comprising administering to the subject at least one other psychiatric medication.

. The method of claim 4 , further comprising administering to the subject (i) a tricyclic antidepressant; (ii) a monoamine oxidase inhibitor; (iii) a selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor; (iv) a serotonin and noradrenaline reuptake inhibitor; (v) a second generation antipsychotic medication; or (vi) a combination of two or more thereof

. A method for treating a mood disorder, an anxiety disorder, or schizophrenia in a subject in need thereof comprising administering to the subject a therapeutically effective amount of an amylin agonist comprising the amino acid sequence of any one of SEQ ID NOs:1-31, 33, 35-67, 80-83, and 86-253 to treat the mood disorder, the anxiety disorder, or schizophrenia.
