1 . Use of genistein for the manufacture of a composition useful in the treatment and prevention of dry eye syndrome or of LKC in a human or animal. 
   
   
       2 . The use of  claim 1  where the composition is for systemic, preferably oral or topical application. 
   
   
       3 . Use of genistein in the treatment and prevention of dry eye syndrome or of LKC characterized in that a composition containing an effective amount thereof is applied to a human or animal in need thereof.
