Novel use of genistein

Abstract

Use of genistein for the treatment and prevention of dry eye syndrome or LKC and corresponding compositions containing it.

1 . Use of genistein for the manufacture of a composition useful in the treatment and prevention of dry eye syndrome or of LKC in a human or animal. 
   
   
       2 . The use of  claim 1  where the composition is for systemic, preferably oral or topical application. 
   
   
       3 . Use of genistein in the treatment and prevention of dry eye syndrome or of LKC characterized in that a composition containing an effective amount thereof is applied to a human or animal in need thereof. 
   
   
       4 . The use of  claim 3  wherein the composition is applied systemically, preferably orally. 
   
   
       5 . A method of treatment and prevention of dry eye syndrome or of LKC by applying a composition containing an effective amount of genistein to a human or animal in need thereof. 
   
   
       6 . The method of  claim 5  wherein the composition is applied systemically, preferably orally. 
   
   
       7 . A composition for use in the treatment and prevention of dry eye syndrome or of LKC characterized in that it contains an effective amount of genistein. 
   
   
       8 . The composition of  claim 7  for systemic, preferably oral administration. 
   
   
       9 . The composition of  claim 7  which is a pharmaceutical dosage form. 
   
   
       10 . The composition of  claim 7  which is a food or feed or a corresponding supplement. 
   
   
       11 . A food or feed supplemented with genistein or with a composition containing it. 
   
   
       12 . The food or feed of  claim 11  which is a functional food or beverage.
