Abstract

The invention relates to a process for removing carbon monoxide from a hydrogenous gas stream by reacting the carbon monoxide with hydrogen to give methane and water in the presence of a heterogeneous catalyst. In this process, the catalyst is present in the form of a thin-layer catalyst on a support material. The invention further relates to an apparatus for carrying out the process.

An apparatus for carrying out a process for removing carbon monoxide from a hydrogenous gas stream, comprising: A methanization reactor, wherein a thin-layer catalyst applied to a support material is accommodated within the methanization reactor, the thin-layer catalyst having a thickness in the range from 0.01 μm to 100 μm, wherein the support material is in the form of a woven fabric or knitted fabric. 
   
   
       2 . The apparatus according to  claim 1 , wherein the wall of the methanization reactor has a jacketed design. 
   
   
       3 . The apparatus according to  claim 1 , wherein the thin-layer catalyst applied to the support material is finished to form individual structured packing elements. 
   
   
       4 . The apparatus according to  claim 2 , wherein the thin-layer catalyst applied to the support material is finished to form individual structured packing elements. 
   
   
       5 . The apparatus according to  claim 3 , wherein disc-shaped reactor internals are formed from the structured packing elements and are arranged in the methanization reactor in such a way that flow channels which form run alternately in the opposite sense.
