Boat window system

Abstract

A cabin enclosure of a boat which is substantially water proof is provided. The cabin enclosure comprises a top, frame with joists attached to joist covers, plurality of windows, flashing and track which are layered upon each other to cascade water down the top, onto the windows and onto the track and into the river, bay or ocean. The plurality of windows may surround the passenger area of the boat and also prevents water from entering the boat. In particular, the plurality of windows are zippered onto adjacent joist covers so as to form a substantially water proof barrier between the interior and exterior of the boat. The flashing may be attached to the interior of the window with hooks and loops which run horizontally across the window and prevent water that splashes under the window from entering into the passenger area.

       18 . A cabin enclosure for a boat, the cabin enclosure comprising:
 a frame circumscribing a passenger area of the boat, the frame having at least one window opening; and   first and second transparent sheets being disposable within the at least one window opening, each sheet defining a peripheral edge portion;   first and second borders respectively sewn with threads to the peripheral edge portions of the first and second sheets for providing a substantially water proof barrier; and   a first and second closure members removably attachable to each other and respectively attached to the first and second borders for providing a substantially water proof barrier.   
   
   
       19 . The system of  claim 18  wherein the first and second borders each comprise an inner layer and an outer layer, the transparent sheet being interposed therebetween. 
   
   
       20 . The system of  claim 18  wherein the first and second closure members are zippers. 
   
   
       21 . The system of  claim 18  wherein the window opening comprises first and second window apertures each sized and configured to respectively receive the first and second transparent sheets. 
   
   
       22 . A cabin enclosure for a boat, the cabin enclosure comprising:
 a frame circumscribing a passenger area of the boat, the frame having at least one window opening;   a plurality of transparent sheets being disposable within the at least one window opening, each sheet defining a pair of vertical edges;   a pair of closure members disposed adjacent to respective vertical edges;   threads pierced through the closure members and the transparent sheets to provide a substantially water proof barrier; and   an inner layer and an outer layer with the sheet interposed therebetween and sewn thereto.   
   
   
       23 . The enclosure of  claim 22  wherein the inner layer and the outer layer is a marine fabric. 
   
   
       24 . The enclosure of  claim 22  wherein the window opening comprises window apertures sized and configured to receive the plurality of transparent sheets. 
   
   
       25 . The enclosure of  claim 22  wherein the sheet is a polycarbonate material. 
   
   
       26 . The enclosure of  claim 22  wherein the closure members are zippers. 
   
   
       27 . The enclosure of  claim 26  further comprising an inner layer and an outer layer wherein the sheet and a base of a row of teeth of the zipper are interposed therebetween and sewn thereto.

The enclosure of  claim 27  further comprising a joist cover attached to the joist wherein the joist cover comprises an interior layer and an exterior layer and a base of a second row of teeth of the zipper is interposed between the interior layer and the exterior layer and sewn thereto. 
   
   
       29 . The enclosure of  claim 28  further comprising a sleeve attached to the joist cover to retain the joist cover on the joist. 
   
   
       30 . The enclosure of  claim 22  wherein the frame covers the passenger area and the enclosure further comprises a top attached on top of the frame and extends beyond the headers to allow water to cascade down the top and back into water. 
   
   
       31 . The enclosure of  claim 30  further comprising a water guard attachable to the boat and a flashing attachable to the waterguard wherein bottom ends of the first and second borders extend outboard of the water guard to allow water to cascade down the exterior side of the sheet and onto an exterior of the boat. 
   
   
       32 . The enclosure of  claim 31  wherein the water guard and the sheet are removably attachable to each other with hooks and loops. 
   
   
       33 . The enclosure of  claim 30  further comprising an elastic cord attached to the sheet and a button attached to the frame, and wherein the sheet is rotateably displaceable away from the window opening about the header and the elastic cord is engageable with the button to hold the sheet in an opened position. 
   
   
       34 . A window system of a boat cabin enclosure, the enclosure having a window opening defined by a pair of joists and a header attached to upper ends of the joists wherein the lower ends of the joists are attached to the boat, the system comprising a transparent sheet defining a pair of vertical edges disposable between the two joists and under the header for preventing water from entering the boat, the vertical edges being removably attachable to respective joists with closure members sewn with threads onto respective vertical edges and respective adjacent joists, wherein both the sheet and the closure members are interposed between an inner layer and an outer layer and sewn together. 
   
   
       35 . The system of  claim 34  wherein the closure members are zippers. 
   
   
       36 . The system of  claim 34  wherein the closure members are sewn to respective vertical edges of the sheet with a run stitch.
