Abstract

Methods of treating an eye disorder are disclosed. Particular methods comprise a step of locally administering a Clostridial toxin to the eye of a patient to treat the disorder.

1 . A method for treating eye inflammation in a patient in need thereof, the method comprising the steps of administering a  Clostridial  toxin in an amount effective to treat eye inflammation, thereby treating the eye inflammation. 
   
   
       2 . The method of  claim 1  wherein eye inflammation is a result of bacterial conjunctivitis, fungal conjunctivitis, viral conjunctivitis, uveitis, keratic precipitates, macular edema, or inflammation response after intra-ocular lens implantation. 
   
   
       3 . The method of  claim 1  wherein the eye inflammation is a result of conjunctivitis. 
   
   
       4 . The method of  claim 1  wherein the  Clostridial  toxin is administered topically to the eye. 
   
   
       5 . The method of  claim 1  wherein the  Clostridial  toxin is produced by  Clostridial beratti, Clostridia butyricum, Clostridial tetani  bacterium or  Clostridial botulinum.    
   
   
       6 . The method of  claim 1  wherein  Clostridial  toxin is a  botulinum  toxin selected from the group consisting of  botulinum  toxin types A, B, C 1 , D, E, F, G and mixtures thereof. 
   
   
       7 . The method of  claim 1  wherein the  Clostridial  toxin is  botulinum  toxin type A. 
   
   
       8 . The method of  claim 1  wherein the  Clostridial  toxin is administered in conjunction with a vasoconstrictor. 
   
   
       9 . The method of  claim 1  wherein the  Clostridial  toxin is administered in conjunction with a polyanionic component. 
   
   
       10 . A method for treating edema of the eye in a patient in need thereof, the method comprising the step of administering a  botulinum  toxin in an amount effective to treat edema of the eye in the patient, thereby treating the edema of the eye. 
   
   
       11 . The method of  claim 10 , wherein the  botulinum  toxin is selected from the group consisting of  botulinum  toxin types A, B, C 1 , D, E, F or G. 
   
   
       12 . The method of  claim 10 , wherein the edema of the eye is macular edema. 
   
   
       13 . The method of  claim 10 , wherein the  botulinum  toxin is  botulinum  toxin type A and is administered in and amount from about 0.01 U/kg (units of botulinum toxin per kilogram of patient weight) to about 15 U/kg. 
   
   
       14 . The method of  claim 10 , wherein the  botulinum  toxin is applied topically.
