Claims

Abstract

A method of assembling a hanger assembly for mounting to a fan housing in a building includes, providing a first bracket having a first end and a second end, the first end having a first flange and a second flange, providing a second bracket having a first end and a second end, the second end having a first flange and a second flange. The method further includes inserting the second end of the first bracket in a first direction into a first end of a third bracket, inserting the first end of the second bracket in a second direction, opposite the first direction, into a second end of the third bracket, and coupling at least one spacer to the third bracket, the spacer extends from the third bracket in a third direction, substantially perpendicular to the first direction.

1 . A method of mounting a fan housing to a support in a building, the support having a side surface and a lower surface substantially normal to the side surface, the method comprising the acts of:
 providing a hanger assembly including a body having an end, the end having a first outwardly extending flange and a second outwardly extending flange;   securing the fan housing to the hanger body;   connecting the first flange to the side surface of the support to secure the hanger body and the fan housing to the support; and   connecting the second flange to the second surface of the support to orient the hanger body and the fan housing relative to the lower surface of the first support and to maintain a predetermined distance between a lower surface of the fan housing and the lower surface of the support.   
     
     
         2 . The method of  claim 1 , wherein the support is a first support and the building includes a second support, wherein the end of the body is a first end and the body includes a second end, and further comprising the act of engaging the second support with the second end of the hanger body to support the hanger body and the fan housing between the first support and the second support. 
     
     
         3 . The method of  claim 2 , further comprising the act of moving the second end of the hanger body relative to the first end of the hanger body in a direction substantially normal to the side surface of the first support to adjust a length of the hanger body measured between the first end and the second end of the hanger body. 
     
     
         4 . The method of  claim 1 , wherein the hanger body includes an interior surface and a spacer extending outwardly from the interior surface, and wherein securing the fan housing to the hanger body includes securing the spacer to the fan body to prevent contact between the interior surface of the hanger body and the fan housing. 
     
     
         5 . The method of  claim 1 , wherein the first flange supports a fastener in a recessed position, in which an outer end of the fastener is recessed with respect to the flange, and wherein the act of securing the end of the hanger body to the first support includes moving the fastener with respect to the first flange and into the first support. 
     
     
         6 . The method of  claim 1 , wherein securing the fan housing to the hanger body includes securing a spacer to the hanger body and securing the fan housing to the spacer, at a distance from the hanger body. 
     
     
         7 . A method of assembling a hanger assembly for mounting to a fan housing in a building, the method comprising:
 providing a first bracket having a first end and a second end, the first end having a first flange and a second flange;   providing a second bracket having a first end and a second end, the second end having a first flange and a second flange;   inserting the second end of the first bracket in a first direction into a first end of a third bracket;   inserting the first end of the second bracket in a second direction, opposite the first direction, into a second end of the third bracket; and   coupling at least one spacer to the third bracket, the spacer extends from the third bracket in a third direction, substantially perpendicular to the first direction.   
     
     
         8 . The method of  claim 7 , wherein coupling at least one spacer includes coupling a first spacer and a second spacer, spaced from the first spacer along the first direction, to the third bracket, the second spacer extending substantially parallel to the third direction. 
     
     
         9 . The method of  claim 7 , further comprising inserting a fastener into an aperture in the first flange of the first bracket and retaining the fastener in the aperture. 
     
     
         10 . The method of  claim 7 , further comprising orienting the first flange at an angle of between about 80 degrees and about 100 degrees with respect to the first bracket. 
     
     
         11 . The method of  claim 10 , further comprising orienting the second flange at an angle of about 90 degrees with respect to the first flange and at an angle of about 90 degrees with respect to the first bracket. 
     
     
         12 . The method of  claim 7 , further comprising sliding the first bracket and the second bracket within the third bracket along the at least one of the first and second directions to adjust a length of the hanger assembly. 
     
     
         13 . A method of installing a fan housing in a building, the method comprising:
 providing a first bracket having a first end and a second end;   providing a second bracket having a first end and a second end;   inserting the second end of the first bracket into a third bracket;   inserting the first end of the second bracket into the third bracket;   coupling at least one spacer to the third bracket;   coupling the first end of the first bracket to a first structure in the building;   coupling the second end of the second bracket to a second structure in the building; and   coupling a distal end of the spacer to the fan housing, such that the fan housing is spaced from the third bracket.   
     
     
         14 . The method of  claim 13 , further comprising sliding the first bracket within the third bracket to adjust a distance between the first end of the first bracket and the second end of the second bracket. 
     
     
         15 . The method of  claim 13 , further comprising sliding the second bracket within the third bracket to adjust a distance between the first end of the first bracket and the second end of the second bracket. 
     
     
         16 . The method of  claim 13 , further comprising inserting a fastener through an aperture in a first flange adjacent the first end of the first bracket and retaining the fastener in the aperture. 
     
     
         17 . The method of  claim 16 , further comprising orienting the first flange at an angle of between about 80 degrees and about 100 degrees with respect to the first bracket. 
     
     
         18 . The method of  claim 16 , further comprising orienting a second flange adjacent the first end of the first bracket substantially normal to the first flange and substantially normal to the first bracket. 
     
     
         19 . The method of  claim 18 , further comprising abutting the first flange against a first surface of the first structure and abutting the second flange against a second surface of the first structure prior to coupling the first end of the first bracket to the first structure of the building. 
     
     
         20 . The method of  claim 19 , further comprising abutting a first flange adjacent the second end of the second bracket against a first surface of the second structure and abutting a second flange adjacent the second end of the second bracket against a second surface of the second structure prior to coupling the second end of the second bracket to the second structure of the building. 
     
     
         21 . The method of  claim 13 , further comprising coupling a second spacer to the third bracket and coupling a distal end of the second spacer to the fan housing.
