Abstract

A fairing is disclosed, comprising a surface capable of bounding a fluid on the surface and a seal located at an edge portion on the fairing wherein the seal has at least one support flange and a contact face capable of engaging with an adjacent component to facilitate reducing a leakage of the fluid. A stator assembly is disclosed comprising a vane, a first fairing having a first seal and a second fairing having a second seal, wherein the first seal engages with an adjacent component to facilitate reducing leakage of a fluid in the stator assembly.

Claims

exact text as granted — not AI-modified
1 . A fairing comprising:
a surface capable of bounding a fluid on the surface; and a seal located at an edge portion of the fairing wherein the seal has at least one support flange and a contact face capable of engaging with an adjacent component to facilitate reducing a leakage of the fluid.

2 . A fairing according to claim 1 wherein the fairing has a first seal located at a first edge portion and a second seal located at a second edge portion.

3 . A fairing according to claim 1 wherein the seal is bonded to the edge portion.

4 . A fairing according to claim 1 wherein the seal has two support flanges.

5 . A fairing according to claim 4 wherein at least one support flange of the seal is bonded to the edge portion.

6 . A fairing according to claim 1 wherein the seal has a head portion having a sealing wall.

7 . A fairing according to claim 6 wherein the head portion further comprises a support wall.

8 . A fairing according to claim 1 wherein the seal has a head portion having a sealing contact face that is substantially flat.

9 . A fairing according to claim 1 wherein the seal has a head portion having a sealing contact face that is non-planar.

10 . A fairing according to claim 1 wherein the seal is made from a material selected from a group consisting of Silicone, Rubber, RTV Silicone, Neoprene, Polysulfide, and Polyurethane, or any combinations thereof.

       11 . A stator assembly comprising:
a vane; a first fairing located near a first side of the vane; a second fairing located near a second side of the vane; a first seal coupled to a first edge portion of the first fairing; a second seal coupled to a second edge portion of the second fairing; and wherein the first seal engages with the second seal to facilitate reducing leakage of a fluid in the stator assembly.

12 . A stator assembly according to claim 11 wherein the first seal engages with the vane to facilitate reducing leakage of the fluid in the stator assembly.

13 . A stator assembly according to claim 11 wherein the first seal and the second seal engage with the vane to facilitate reducing leakage of the fluid in the stator assembly.

14 . A stator assembly according to claim 11 wherein the first seal is coupled to the first fairing using a flange.

15 . A stator assembly according to claim 11 wherein the first seal is bonded to the first fairing.

16 . A stator assembly according to claim 11 wherein a first contact face on the first seal contacts a second contact face on the second seal.

17 . A stator assembly according to claim 11 wherein the first seal is made from a material selected from a group consisting of Silicone, Rubber, RTV Silicone, Neoprene, Polysulfide, and Polyurethane, or any combinations thereof.

18 . A stator assembly according to claim 11 wherein first contact face is substantially flat.

19 . A stator assembly according to claim 11 wherein first contact face is non-planar.

       20 . A seal comprising:
a support portion having at least one flange capable of coupling with a first component; and a sealing wall having a contact face capable of engaging with a second component to facilitate reducing leakage of a fluid.

21 . A seal according to claim 20 wherein the seal has two flanges.

22 . A seal according to claim 20 wherein the seal is made from a material selected from a group consisting of Silicone, Rubber, RTV Silicone, Neoprene, Polysulfide, and Polyurethane, or any combinations thereof.
