Claims

Abstract

A method of making foam imparts antimicrobial and antiodorant qualities to the foam. Green tea powder is added to the polyol raw materials for making memory foam. The green tea memory foam is used to make pillows, cushions and mattresses. Green tea foam in the top layer of a mattress acts as an antiodorant such that less of the chemical smell of the memory foam is perceived by the user. In addition, the bacteria and mold that would otherwise develop in the moist warmer sleeping environment on memory foam are killed by the green tea additive to the foam. Measurable antimicrobial and antiodorant qualities in the green tea foam are achievable by adding green tea powder constituting less than 2% of the weight of the resulting green tea foam.

         21 . A method comprising:
 (a) mixing polyol raw materials together, wherein the polyol raw materials are used to make foam;   (b) adding green dye to the polyol raw materials mixed together in (a);   (c) adding green tea to the polyol raw materials mixed together in (a); and   (d) adding a catalyst to the polyol raw materials, the green tea dye and the green tea to make a green tea foam.   
     
     
         22 . The method of  claim 21 , wherein the green tea added in (c) is in a form taken from the group consisting of: a powder of green tea leaves, a powder of green tea stems and a water solution of green tea extract. 
     
     
         23 . The method of  claim 21 , further comprising, between (a) and (b):
 (e) adding a silicone surfactant to the polyol raw materials mixed together in (a); and   (f) mixing the silicone surfactant with the polyol raw materials.   
     
     
         24 . The method of  claim 21 , further comprising:
 (e) evenly disbursing the green tea throughout the polyol raw materials by adding a hydrophilic silicone surfactant to the polyol raw materials mixed together in (a).   
     
     
         25 . The method of  claim 21 , further comprising:
 (e) adding water to the polyol raw materials, the green tea dye, the green tea and the catalyst, wherein the water is added together with the catalyst.   
     
     
         26 . The method of  claim 21 , wherein the green tea added in (c) constitutes less than 2% of the weight of the green tea foam. 
     
     
         27 . The method of  claim 21 , wherein the polyol raw materials are used to make memory foam. 
     
     
         28 . The method of  claim 21 , further comprising:
 (e) making a foam layer of a mattress using the green tea foam.   
     
     
         29 . The method of  claim 21 , further comprising:
 (e) making a pillow using the green tea foam.   
     
     
         30 . The method of  claim 21 , further comprising:
 (e) using the green tea foam to make a green-colored top layer of polyurethane memory foam of a multi-layered mattress.   
     
     
         31 . The method of  claim 30 , further comprising:
 (f) displaying the green-colored top layer of polyurethane memory foam in a cut-away display sample of the multi-layered mattress.   
     
     
         32 . A method comprising:
 (a) mixing together polyol raw materials, green tea dye and green tea, wherein the polyol raw materials are used to make memory foam;   (b) adding a catalyst to the polyol raw materials, the green tea dye and the green tea to make a green tea foam; and   (c) using the green tea foam to make a green-colored top layer of a memory foam mattress.   
     
     
         33 . The method of  claim 32 , wherein the memory foam mattress includes the green-colored top layer, a lower layer of high density foam, and a fabric covering surrounding the top layer and the lower layer. 
     
     
         34 . The method of  claim 33 , wherein the memory foam mattress includes a second layer made of chopped up chunks of memory foam glued together with pieces of polyurethane foam, and wherein the second layer is between the lower layer and the green-colored top layer. 
     
     
         35 . The method of  claim 32 , wherein the green tea constitutes less than 2% of the weight of the green tea foam. 
     
     
         36 . The method of  claim 32 , wherein a proportion of green tea is added in (b) that is sufficient to kill bacteria on the green-colored top layer. 
     
     
         37 . The method of  claim 32 , wherein the memory foam has a chemical smell, and wherein a proportion of green tea is added in (b) that is sufficient to reduce the chemical smell of the green tea foam. 
     
     
         38 . The method of  claim 32 , wherein the green-colored top layer is displayed in a cut-away display sample of the memory foam mattress.
