Abstract

A process is disclosed for treating impure water by introducing a solution of electrolyticially generated silver citrate into the impure water wherein the silver is electrolytically generated in a solution of citric acid and water.

1 . A process for treating impure water, comprising introducing a solution of an antimicrobial amount of silver dihydrogen citrate and at least 5% wt/vol citric acid into the impure water to obtain disinfected water. 
   
   
       2 . The process of  claim 1 , wherein the concentration of silver dihydrogen citrate in said solution is 500-1000 ppm. 
   
   
       3 . The process of  claim 2  wherein the concentration of silver dihydrogen citrate in said solution is 2000 ppm. 
   
   
       4 . The process of  claim 1 , wherein the concentration of silver dihydrogen citrate is 100 ppb in the disinfected water. 
   
   
       5 . The process of  claim 1 , wherein the concentration of silver dihydrogen citrate in said solution is in excess of 0.05% wt/vol. 
   
   
       6 . The process of  claim 1 , wherein the concentration of citric acid in said solution is 20.0% wt/vol. 
   
   
       7 . The process of  claim 1 , wherein the solution of silver dihydrogen citrate and citric acid is continuously metered into moving impure water. 
   
   
       8 . The process of  claim 1 , wherein the solution of silver dihydrogen citrate and citric acid is continuously pumped into moving impure water. 
   
   
       9 . The process of  claim 1 , wherein the solution of silver dihydrogen citrate and citric acid is continuously injected into a batch of impure water.
