Adjusting the amplitude and phase characteristics of transmitter generated wireless communication signals in response to base station transmit power control signals and known transmitter amplifier characteristics
Abstract
A method and system for adjusting the amplitude and phase characteristics of wireless communication signals generated by an analog radio transmitter, based on transmit power control (TPC) signals received by a base station (BS) and known characteristics of a power amplifier (PA) included in the transmitter. A digital pre-distortion compensation module, having real and imaginary signal paths, receives and processes real and imaginary signal components used to generate the wireless communication signal. The phase and amplitude characteristics of the wireless communication signal are controlled in response to the TPC signals, such that impaired amplitude and phase characteristics of the PA are corrected.
Claims
exact text as granted — not AI-modified1 . A method of adjusting the amplitude and phase characteristics of wireless communication signals, comprising:
receiving and processing respective real and imaginary signal components; generating a communication signal based on the processed real and imaginary signal components; providing the communication signal to a power amplifier; and processing the provided communication signal to produce a resulting amplified and linearized communication signal.
2 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the generating a communication signal includes:
generating a power estimation signal based on a magnitude of the real and imaginary signal components; generating an amplitude compensation signal based on a temperature reading; and generating an amplitude compensated imaginary signal component based at least in part on the amplitude compensation signal.
3 . The method of claim 2 , wherein the generating a power estimation signal is based on a power estimation function.
4 . The method of claim 2 , wherein generating an amplitude compensation signal further comprises:
multiplying the power estimation signal by a transmit power control mapped signal to obtain a first result; and generating, by a look up table selected based on the temperature reading, the amplitude compensation signal based on the first result.
5 . The method of claim 4 , further comprising:
generating a phase compensation signal by a phase distortion compensation unit and the first result.
6 . The method of claim 5 , further comprising:
rotating a constellation such that the real and imaginary signal components are identical in all four quadrants forming a perfect square in the constellation.
7 . The method of claim 2 , further comprising:
generating a phase compensation signal is based on the communication signal.
8 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the processing comprises:
receiving a mapped transmit power control signal.Join the waitlist — get patent alerts
