Reinforced plastic sheet utility bag

Abstract

A structurally enhanced plastic bag, comprising front and back plastic sheets interconnected along side edges and along a bottom edge, the sheets having unconnected top edges, at least one top edge defining an undulant upward protrusion along edge medial extents, the two sheets defining at least one transverse medial opening intersecting a portion of the protrusion to define a handle between the upper edge of the protrusion and the opening, and a structural plastic sheet patch bonded to at least one of the front and back sheets and extending proximate the transverse medial opening, and in upward alignment with the handle.

1 . A structurally enhanced plastic bag, comprising in combination:
 a) front and back plastic sheets interconnected along side edges and along a bottom edge, the sheets having unconnected top edges,   b) at least one top edge defining an undulant upward protrusion along edge medial extents,   c) the two sheets defining at least one transverse medial opening intersecting a portion of the protrusion to define a handle between the upper edge of the protrusion and said opening,   d) and a structural plastic sheet patch bonded to at least one of the front and back sheets and extending proximate said transverse medial opening, and in upward alignment with said handle.   
   
   
       2 . The combination of  claim 1  wherein said transverse opening has a cross dimension between four and five centimeters, in bag upright position. 
   
   
       3 . The combination of  claim 1  wherein the bulk of said sheet patch is above the level of said opening. 
   
   
       4 . The combination of  claim 1  wherein the bulk of the sheet patch lies between the lowermost and the uppermost levels of said opening. 
   
   
       5 . The combination of  claim 1  wherein the bulk of the sheet patch lies between a lower level below the lowermost level of said opening, and an upper level above the uppermost level of said opening. 
   
   
       6 . The combination of  claim 1  wherein the sheet patch is everywhere bonded to said one of the sheets, by
 x 1 ) glue,   x 2 ) heat sealing.   
   
   
       7 . The combination of  claim 1  wherein there are two of said sheet patches respectively bonded to the two sheets at the inner sides thereof that face the bag interior. 
   
   
       8 . The combination of  claim 7  wherein said sheet patches and the two sheets consist of translucent flexible plastic sheet material for concealment of the sheet patches at the inner sides of the two sheets. 
   
   
       9 . The combination of- claim 8  wherein the sheet patches extend laterally lengthwise throughout the lateral length dimensions of both said transverse opening and the major lateral length of the undulant top edges of the two sheets. 
   
   
       10 . The combination of  claim 1  wherein the bag has folded sheet bottom edge area enhanced wall thickness for substantially increasing overall bag thickness along the bag bottom edge for enhancement of load carrying structural strength of the bag desirably below the strength enhancing sheet patch and below the handle upper undulant edge. 
   
   
       11 . The combination of  claim 1  wherein the bag one sheet defines handle left and right upright extents to which the patch is bonded generally laterally of said opening. 
   
   
       12 . The combination of  claim 1  wherein the patch is dimpled for added strength under loading extended along a path or paths in the plane of the patch. 
   
   
       13 . The combination of  claim 1  wherein protrusion defined by said one of the front and back sheets has laterally spaced angled upper edges in lateral alignment with uppermost extent of the sheet patch. 
   
   
       14 . The combination of  claim 6  wherein said laterally spaced upper edges extend angularly toward uppermost extent of the protrusion. 
   
   
       15 . The combination of  claim 11  wherein the bag has an uppermost edge which is laterally undulant above the level of the sheet patch. 
   
   
       16 . The bag of  claim 13  wherein said patch is bonded to said at least one of the front and back sheets by one of the following:
 x 1 ) glue,   x 2 ) heat sealing.   
   
   
       17 . The bag of  claim 1  wherein sheet thickness is between 8 and 200 microns.
