Abstract
The present invention is directed to a wheelie bin that has a foot pedal to open the lid thereby allowing a person to place their waste within the bin without touching the lid. The position of the foot pedal and pivotal linkages are mounted to the bin in a non-obstuctive manner.
Claims
exact text as granted — not AI-modified1 - 10 . (canceled)
11 . A waste bin including
a container portion having a plurality of upright elongate side walls and a floor;
a lid pivotally mounted on a rearward side of the container portion;
a pair of wheels fixed to an axle, said axle is mounted on a rearward side of the container portion; and
a lid opener mounted to the container portion and the lid, said lid opener has a first elongate member that is pivotally mounted to a base portion of the container portion and extends rearwardly from adjacent a front wall of the container portion and is positioned below the floor of the container portion, said first elongate portion is pivotally connected to a second elongate member at or adjacent the rearward side of the container portion, said second elongate member extends upwardly and is pivotally mounted to the lid between the pivotal mounting of the lid to the container and the lid, wherein the downward movement of a front section of the first elongate member causes the second elongate member to move upwardly and open the lid.
12 . A waste bin as claimed in claim 11 wherein the first elongate member is substantially surrounded by a skirt, said skirt surrounds at least the front and sides of the container portion and below the floor of the container portion and is integral with the walls of the container portion.
13 . A waste bin as claimed in claim 12 wherein the first elongate member does not extend in front of the front portion of the skirt.
14 . A waste bin as claimed in claim 13 , wherein the skirt has an aperture to provide access to the front section of the first elongate member.
15 . A waste bin as claimed in claim 11 wherein there is a stop member positioned below the first elongate member to limit downward movement of the first elongate member.
16 . A waste bin as claimed in claim 15 wherein the stop member forms part of the skirt.
17 . A waste bin as claimed in claim 11 wherein the first elongate member has a foot support on the front section of the first elongate member.
18 . A waste bin as claimed in claim 11 wherein the pivot mounting for the first elongate member is mounted to the floor of the container portion in a position where the first elongate member causes the second elongate member to move upwardly when the front portion of the first elongate member or foot support moves downwardly.
19 . A waste bin as claimed in claim 11 wherein the position of the pivotal mounting of the first elongate member to the underside of the container portion is rearward of the central transverse axis of the container portion.
20 . A waste bin as claimed in claim 11 wherein the front section of the first elongate member has a foot support to actuate opening of the lid, the rear section of the first elongate member is pivotally connected to a lower end of the second elongate member.
21 . A waste bin as claimed in claim 11 wherein the second elongate member is positioned adjacent a back wall of the container portion or within a recess in the back wall of the container portion.
22 . A waste bin as claimed in claim 11 wherein the lid opener is positioned substantially in the middle of the bin.
23 . A waste bin as claimed in claim 11 wherein the position of the lid opener does not interfere with the emptying of the bin by a garbage collection vehicle or is not damaged by a lifting arm of the garbage collection vehicle.Join the waitlist — get patent alerts
