Abstract

Disclosed is an antibody produced using an ostrich. Also disclosed is a method for producing the antibody. By using an ostrich, it becomes possible to produce antibodies (particularly antibodies for medical use), which have been hardly produced by using the mammals such as the mouse and the rat, homogeneously in a single body, in large quantities and in a simple manner. The method can overcome a disadvantage of lot-to-lot variation which may occur in the production of polyclonal antibodies using other animals.

1 . An antibody prepared by a method comprising:
 administering to an ostrich a protein or a peptide fragment thereof as an antigen,   producing an ostrich antibody against the protein or the peptide fragment thereof, where the ostrich antibody specifically binds to the protein or the peptide fragment thereof, and   isolating the ostrich antibody from an ostrich fluid.   
     
     
         2 . The antibody of  claim 1 , where the protein or a peptide fragment thereof is a mammalian protein or a peptide fragment thereof and the ostrich antibody specifically binds to the mammalian protein or the peptide fragment thereof. 
     
     
         3 . The antibody of  claim 15 , wherein the antibody is for medical use, where the use is selected from the group consisting of a treatment or a diagnosis. 
     
     
         4 . The antibody of  claim 3 , wherein the treatment is a treatment for cancer. 
     
     
         5 . The antibody of  claim 3 , wherein the human protein or the peptide fragment thereof is human CD166 protein or a peptide fragment thereof. 
     
     
         6 . The antibody of  claim 3 , wherein the ostrich antibody is an anti-human CD antibody. 
     
     
         7 . The antibody of  claim 6 , wherein the anti-human CD antibody is selected from the group consisting of an anti-human CD166 antibody and an anti-human CD146 antibody. 
     
     
         8 . The antibody of  claim 1 , where the protein or a peptide fragment thereof is a viral protein or a peptide fragment thereof and the ostrich antibody specifically binds to the viral protein or the peptide fragment thereof. 
     
     
         9 . The antibody of  claim 8 , wherein the ostrich antibody is used to detect a virus selected from the group consisting of IBV (Infectious Bronchitis Virus) and SARS virus. 
     
     
         10 . The antibody of  claim 1 , wherein the ostrich is an infant ostrich. 
     
     
         11 . The antibody of  claim 1 , wherein the ostrich is a female ostrich and the ostrich fluid is a yolk of an egg from the female ostrich.

         15 . The antibody of  claim 1 , where the mammalian protein or a peptide fragment thereof is a human protein or a peptide fragment thereof and the ostrich antibody specifically binds to the human protein or the peptide fragment thereof. 
     
     
         16 . A method of producing an ostrich antibody comprising the steps of:
 a. administering to an ostrich a protein or a peptide fragment thereof as an antigen,   b. producing an ostrich antibody against the protein or the peptide fragment thereof, where the ostrich antibody specifically binds to the protein or the peptide fragment thereof,   c. isolating the ostrich antibody from an ostrich fluid, and   d. producing a polyclonal or monoclonal antibody.   
     
     
         17 . The method of producing an ostrich antibody of  claim 16 , where the protein or a peptide fragment thereof is a mammalian protein or a peptide fragment thereof and the ostrich antibody specifically binds to the mammalian protein or the peptide fragment thereof. 
     
     
         18 . The method of producing an ostrich antibody of  claim 16 , where the mammalian protein or a peptide fragment thereof is a human protein or a peptide fragment thereof and the ostrich antibody specifically binds to the human protein or the peptide fragment thereof. 
     
     
         19 . The method of producing an ostrich antibody of  claim 18 , wherein the human protein or the peptide fragment thereof is human CD166 protein or a peptide fragment thereof. 
     
     
         20 . The method of producing an ostrich antibody of  claim 18 , wherein the ostrich antibody is an anti-human CD antibody. 
     
     
         21 . The method of producing an ostrich antibody of  claim 16 , where the protein or a peptide fragment thereof is a viral protein or a peptide fragment thereof and the ostrich antibody specifically binds to the viral protein or the peptide fragment thereof. 
     
     
         22 . The method of producing an ostrich antibody of  claim 16 , wherein the ostrich is an infant ostrich. 
     
     
         23 . The method of producing an ostrich antibody of  claim 16 , wherein the ostrich is a female ostrich and the ostrich fluid is a yolk of an egg from the female ostrich. 
     
     
         24 . A diagnosis kit for examination comprising the antibody of  claim 1 . 
     
     
         25 . An air-conditioning filter comprising the antibody of  claim 1 . 
     
     
         26 . A face mask filter comprising the antibody of  claim 1 . 
     
     
         27 . A water filter comprising the antibody of  claim 1 . 
     
     
         28 . A filter for removal of antigen comprising the antibody of  claim 1 .
