Abstract
An abrasion device and method for delivery of substances into the skin using a microabrader for delivering a substance into the skin are disclosed. An abrasion device with a cover is also disclosed. Such devices and methods can be effectively used to deliver bioactive substances into skin.
Claims
exact text as granted — not AI-modified1 . A system for delivering a substance into skin comprising:
an abrader having an abrasion surface containing a plurality of microprotrusions adapted for movement across said skin to produce an abraded area on the skin within the bounds of a predetermined abrasion area; a elastic dressing cover, which is applied to the skin after abrasion by the abrader, having a distal surface, said distal surface comprising an adhesive adapted for adhesion to the skin; a delivery system comprising a chamber for containing a portion of the substance, wherein the chamber is bounded by a dome having a distal surface and a closure, wherein the periphery of the distal surface is substantially planar and adapted to mate to the closure wherein the dressing ensures a firm contact of the dome onto the skin surface, and the closure is removable, thereby exposing the chamber.
2 . The system of claim 1 further comprising covering the abrader with the cover wherein said abrader contacts at least a portion of said abrasion area.
3 . The system of claim 1 wherein said abrading surface comprises frustoconical or frustopyramidal microprotrusions that comprise at least one scraping edge projecting from said abrading surface.
4 . The system of claim 1 wherein said substance is applied to the predetermined abrasion area by pressure on the dome.
5 . The system of claim 4 wherein said microprotrusions are at least partially coated with a portion said substance to be delivered.
6 . The system of claim 1 wherein said substance selected from the group consisting of drug, vaccine, and bioactive substance.
7 . The system of claim 5 wherein said abrader is coated with apportion of said substance selected from the group consisting of drug, vaccine, and bioactive substance.Join the waitlist — get patent alerts
