Abstract
A biomaterial for suturing comprising a physiologically compatible support material coated with a cellular population with proliferative and/or differentiation capacity, characteristics which facilitate the regeneration of the sutured tissue. This biomaterial for suturing not only brings together the two edges of an open wound, but also contributes actively to the healing process, thereby accelerating the tissue repair process. Also disclosed are methods for making the biomaterial and methods for using the biomaterials in therapy.

29 . A method of suturing, comprising the steps of:
(a) obtaining multipotent stem cells; (b) adhering the multipotent stem cells to a thread or staple; and (c) bringing edges of tissue together using the thread or staple.
30 . The method of claim 29 , wherein the multipotent stem cells are adipose derived.
31 . The method of claim 30 , wherein the adipose derived multipotent stem cells are obtained by liposuction.
32 . The method of claim 29 , wherein the population of multipotent stem cells is a heterogenous cell population.
33 . The method of claim 29 , wherein the thread is absorbable.
34 . The method of claim 29 , wherein the thread is made of a natural material.
35 . The method of claim 29 , wherein the thread is a monofilament.
36 . A method for promoting healing of a wound, comprising the step of bringing the edges of the wound together using a thread or staple that contains multipotent stem cells.
37 . The method of claim 36 , wherein the multipotent stem cells are adipose derived.
38 . The method of claim 37 , wherein the adipose derived multipotent stem cells are obtained by liposuction.
39 . The method of claim 36 , wherein the population of multipotent stem cells is a heterogenous cell population.
40 . The method of claim 36 , wherein the population of multipotent stem cells is an autologous, allogenic, or xenogenic population or a combination thereof.
41 . The method of claim 36 , wherein the thread is absorbable.
42 . The method of claim 36 , wherein the thread is made of a natural material.
43 . The method of claim 36 , wherein the thread is a monofilament.
44 . Use of a support material for suturing that contains multipotent stem cells.
45 . The use of claim 44 , comprising the steps of:
(a) obtaining multipotent stem cells; (b) adhering the multipotent stem cells to the support material; and (c) bringing edges of tissue together using the support material.
