Corner trim
Abstract
The method is for forming a trim molding around a window or door opening defined by a lintel and opposite jambs. L-shaped corner trim pieces and vertical casings and at least one horizontal casing are provided. Each corner trim piece has a vertical leg and a horizontal leg. The vertical and horizontal legs of the trim pieces have a first width and a first thickness. The vertical and horizontal casings have a second width and second thickness. The L-shaped corner trim pieces are located on the jambs and the lintel at the right and left upper corners of the opening. The inner edges of the vertical and horizontal legs are each parallel to an inner edge of the jambs and the lintel. Outer abutment ends of the vertical and horizontal casings are placed in direct abutment contact with the vertical and horizontal legs of the trim pieces.
Claims
exact text as granted — not AI-modified1 . A method of forming a trim molding around a window or door opening defined by a lintel and opposite jambs, the opening having right and left upper corners, comprising:
providing at least two L-shaped corner trim pieces, at least two vertical casings and at least one horizontal casing, the corner trim pieces each having a vertical leg and a horizontal leg, the vertical leg having a first mitered end surface, the horizontal leg having a second mitered end surface attached to the first mitered end surface of the vertical leg to form the L-shaped corner trim piece, the vertical leg having a vertical outer edge and a vertical inner edge, the horizontal leg having a horizontal outer edge and a horizontal inner edge, the vertical leg and the horizontal leg having a first width and a first thickness, each of the vertical casings and the horizontal casing having a second width and second thickness, the first width being wider than the second width, the first thickness being thicker than the second thickness, locating one of the L-shaped corner trim pieces on one of the jambs and the lintel at the right or left upper corners of the opening with the inner edge of the vertical leg and the horizontal leg each being parallel to an inner edge of one of the jambs and the lintel; placing an outer abutment end of the vertical casing in direct abutment contact with an outer end of the vertical leg, shifting the vertical casing away from the inner vertical edge of the vertical leg and centering the vertical casing relative to the vertical leg, placing an outer abutment end of the horizontal casing in direct abutment contact with an outer end of the horizontal leg, and shifting the horizontal casing away from the inner horizontal edge of the horizontal leg and centering the horizontal casing relative to the horizontal leg.
2 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the method further comprising providing the corner trim piece with a first profile and the horizontal casing with a second profile, and substantially aligning the first profile with the second profile.
3 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the method further comprising providing the corner trim piece with a first profile and the vertical casing with the second profile, and substantially aligning the first profile with the second profile of the vertical casing.Join the waitlist — get patent alerts
