Abstract

An improved a sand casting line where in sand molds are carried on cars along at least a first and second linear parallel yet opposing paths, including an endless loop conveyor positioned proximal a discharge end of one of the linear paths and a loading end of the other of the linear paths, with a plurality of car supporting elements carried thereon, such that a car can be discharged from the discharge end on to a supporting element simultaneously with a second car being loaded from a supporting element onto the loading end.

1 . An improvement to a sand casting line wherein sand molds are carried on cars along at least a first and second co-terminus yet opposing paths, the improvement comprising:
 An endless loop conveyor positioned proximal a discharge end of one of said first and second paths and a loading end of the other of said first and second paths, said conveyor having a plurality of car supporting elements carried thereon, such that a car can be discharged from said discharge end on to said car supporting elements simultaneously with a second car being loaded from said car supporting elements onto said loading end.   
   
   
       2 . The improvement as described in  claim 1 , further comprising a pan for collecting material falling from said cars, said pan supported beneath said conveyor and substantially coextensive therewith. 
   
   
       3 . The improvement as described in  claim 2  wherein said car supporting elements pass adjacent said pan in said endless loop urging any material collected in said pan from one end thereof. 
   
   
       4 . The improvement as defined in  claim 2 , further comprising a brush mounted to said conveyor for engagement with said pan, said brush urging materials collected in said pan along said pan as said conveyor moves. 
   
   
       5 . The improvement as defined in  claim 1  wherein said conveyor further comprising a motor operatively connected to said conveyor for urging said conveyor selected increments, uniformly in a single direction for bringing said car supporting elements into alignment with said paths. 
   
   
       6 . The improvement as defined in  claim 1  wherein said paths are defined by parallel rails supporting said cars and said car supporting elements are rail extensions. 
   
   
       7 . The improvement as defined in  claim 5  further comprising a pan for collecting material falling from said cars, said pan supported beneath said conveyor and substantially coextensive therewith. 
   
   
       8 . The improvement as defined in  claim 7  wherein said rail extensions urge materials collected in said pan along said pan as said conveyor moves. 
   
   
       9 . The improvement as defined in  claim 7  wherein at least one brush is mounted to said endless loop conveyor for movement therewith relative to said pan to urge materials collected in said pan toward one end of said pan. 
   
   
       10 . The improvement as defined in  claim 1  wherein said endless loop conveyor is a chain conveyor and said car supporting elements are rail lengths affixed to and supported by said chain for intermittent movement into alignment with the ends of said paths. 
   
   
       11 . The improvement as defined in  claim 7  further comprising a pan for collecting material falling from said cars, said pan supported beneath said conveyor and substantially coextensive therewith wherein materials collected in said pan are urged along along said pan as said conveyor moves.
